These kiddos are absolutely fantastic! To make their futures and learning as fabulous as they are, I would like to empower them by providing them choice through their leaning as well as their seating. Some of these seating options include wobble seats, balance ball chairs, clip boards, and lap desks.
My students face many struggles and adversity every day; being at school should not be one of them. My students are 100% Title I, most are ELL, and all receive free breakfast and lunch. On top of being lively 4th graders, we also do not have a playground, which adds to their wiggles in the classroom. With your help, many of these wiggles will be relieved through the use of flexible seating.
Why flexible seating? According to Smith Systems, 9 benefits of flexible seating include:
1. Choice
Allowing students choice helps to empower them and give them
control over their environment.
2. Physical Health
Children NEED to move.
3. Comfort
An uncomfortable student is a distracted student.
4. Community
Flexible seating encourages children to share and take turns.
5. Collaboration
Students are more easily able to work together.
6. Commitment to learning
Increasing student control improves engagement and learning.
7. Communication
Flexible seating requires practice, problem-solving, high-order
thinking, conflict-resolution, and patience.
8. Sensory Input
Stimulating students sense of touch helps with focus, especially
for students ADD/ADHD and ASD.
9. Fun
Flexible seating makes learning fun
On top of these wonderful seating options, I am also asking for a pencil sharpener and Scholastic News.
