I teach General Music (Grades K-8) and Band (Grades 5-8) at a year-round urban charter school. All of my 373 students exhibit boundless energy and an unwavering ambition to learn, despite the daily obstacles they confront. Our student body is 99% African American, and 95% come from low-income households. Music can be transformative for our students. Through their experiences in the music classroom, our students discover avenues for creative expression and find a profound sense of belonging. Our school is committed to fostering excellence not only in academics but also in the arts and personal and social development. We strive to empower our students to become globally competitive individuals who embody absolute excellence in all their endeavors.
