3rd and 4th Graders Need Leveled Books
Funded Aug 25, 2014I am incredibly grateful for your generosity and thoughtfulness, as are my students. I have never seen them more excited than when the brand new books arrived in my classroom of 12 eager 3rd and 4th grade students. I shared the excellent news at Morning Meeting that we were lucky enough to have people care so much about our learning that we received these new books. My students were astounded! They could not believe that they would get to read books all of the books. They were even more astonished that people we did not even know bought them for us. My students wanted to be sure that I shared their big "thank you" to the wonderful donors!
Since we received the resources, our independent reading material has significantly increased. This has led to increased engagement and enjoyment during this time. The students love to take a book bin to the carpet or the "comfy" reading chair and read the engaging books. I have also been able to start a Frog and Toad book club and a Biscuit book club. I am so grateful to have such engaging books for my students to read.
These materials have truly had a positive impact on my students' learning. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for improving my classroom and enhancing my students' school experience. You have provided a gift that has truly made a difference.”

E-Readers for Bronx Students
Funded Aug 4, 2014I am incredibly grateful for your generosity and thoughtfulness, as are my students. I have never seen them more excited than when the Kindle Fires arrived in my classroom of 12 eager 3rd and 4th grade students. I shared the excellent news at Morning Meeting that we were lucky enough to have people care so much about our learning that we received these new learning tools. My students were astounded! They could not believe that they would get to read books and play learning games on the Kindle Fires. They were even more astonished that people we did not even know bought them for us. My students wanted to be sure that I shared their big "thank you" to the wonderful donors!
Since we received the resources, I have been able to download approximately 25 books. I have also found apps that help the students practice sight words, phonics concepts, and math fact fluency. We have implemented a schedule and the students each get to use the Kindles two to three times per week. Additionally, we are able to access the ELA curriculum materials on the Kindle. Because, we only receive one read aloud text for the classroom, it is wonderful to have access to the text on the Kindle Fire to use in small groups. Unexpectedly, I have also been able to teach some of my students to use the timer on the Kindle so that they may limit their time in the cool down area.
I have seen the Kindles have a real impact on my students' learning. Students are most engaged when they are reading on the tablet. It is nice that they are so excited when it is their Kindle day! The sight word apps are also very engaging and have helped increase the sight word knowledge of my students. I am excited to see how I can use the Kindle Fire Tablets in my classroom for years to come. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for improving my classroom and enhancing my students' school experience. You have provided a gift that has truly made a difference.”
