  • The Gingerbread Man Is Coming

    Funded Dec 6, 2023

Thank you so much for donating to our gingerbread projects! Our scholars had a blast. Our students designed their own gingerbread houses and competed against each other for the best gingerbread house. Because of your donations, we had enough supplies, and our whole middle school was able to participate.

It is safe to say that many students were excited to come to school that day and join in on this yearly tradition. Our ENL students enjoyed themselves as well. Although at first, they found this tradition to be odd. It was great to see them learn about something new socially.

Things went so well for our gingerbread houses, and as a next step, we are working on a winter festival that will include a cultural social gathering and ice cream.”

  • Feed My Soul or Whatever Beyonce Said!

    Funded Oct 11, 2023

Thank you so much for your donations! Because of your donations, my scholars could come into class and quickly eat breakfast in the morning. As far as the afternoon, my scholars perked up when they realized they were getting a snack, which helped with their energy levels.

When my scholars first saw the cereals they were excited. They asked which cereals I had and were elated at the different options. Honestly, for some of them, it calmed their spirits knowing that they did not get a chance to grab a bite to eat in the morning.

As far as our next steps, I am currently pushing a new project so that they will have snacks when they come back in for the new year (Please feel free to look at my page). We are also looking to do a winter fest to celebrate our students' different cultures and identities.”

  • Write Like Tyler Perry!

    Funded Sep 22, 2023

Thank you for all your help with procuring notebooks and pencils for our scholars. Our scholars absolutely love the look of this book and even more--they like writing in it. In particular, my ENL students value the book and all the information they write about.

So far the books have been used to help scholars with understanding narratives, and now scholars are writing notes on elements included in argumentative essays.

Notebooks are a focal point in our classroom, and without donors like you, some of our scholars would possibly go without these materials. We would also not be able to track student learning. Thank you once again.”

  • Give Me Some Book Marks and Whatever Beyonce Said

    Funded Apr 6, 2023

Thank you for allowing me to create readers that are excited about reading! My uncle once told me that when I was a toddler, I would walk around with books, and that is what I want for my community of readers. I want them to be excited about everything that reading has to offer--including bookmarks!

It was a great experience watching my students try out their new bookmarks. They had no idea that bookmarks could be so different and in a way--transformative. I love when my students ask me for bookmarks because it lets me know that they are reading their independent reading books, and are enjoying reading!

As for our next steps, I am getting ready to throw a reading celebration for my scholars who have read a certain amount of books, and I plan on having them choose new books for our classroom. Thank you again!”

  • S.T.E.M Comes to 76

    Funded Aug 20, 2023

Thank you so much for making STEM happen in ELA. Through using STEM in my classroom, I am able to get my students to think outside of the box when it comes to building structures or figuring out problems with ELA.

I started this year by conducting STEM experiments to reinforce the norms in my classroom and to also let students know that critical thinking is a requirement in ELA, and it has paid off. Due to your donations, I was able to get my students to create a rollercoaster with the following constraints:

-The ball has to travel 1 foot or 30 cm.

-The ball has to land in the cup.

-Nothing can be inside the cup.

-Students must follow the norms and work together.

Because of these experiments, my students feel challenged and successful. Thank you for helping me to build a transformative classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Bailey

  • Please Don't Stop the Writing Or Whatever Rihanna Said

    Funded Mar 31, 2023

Thank you for your generosity and help with procuring books for my classroom. As you can imagine, schools right now are going through many changes and these changes include changes in our funding and also changes in our students' needs. I want to take time out to thank you from the bottom of my heart for gifting my class with these books. Because of your gifts, I was able to give students who could not afford supplies books to write in.

My students are appreciative of the books that they receive and to be honest, they feel less embarrassed knowing that everyone is getting a book from Ms. Bailey. They also love that the notebooks are creative and different and take offense if their notebooks are suddenly "missing".

With these books, I have been able to differentiate my different classes, have students take notes on different concepts, and I have been able to write down key information for my ENL students. Thank you for all of your support and happy holidays!”

  • The Hunger Games Comes to Ms. Bailey's Classroom!

    Funded Apr 11, 2023

Thank you so much for your generosity in donating to my classroom. You were the key to my class being able to do creative activities and work together in groups. Because of you, my scholars were able to recreate scenes from some of the short stories that we have read.

Although we were not able to procure The Hunger Games because the book was unavailable, my scholars were able to create dioramas on stories like The Veldt. Our unit primarily focused on society and it allowed our students to have "real world" discussions on how society functions and how they could make it better.

The materials also allowed my scholars to analyze the different texts that we read on the big Post-it note paper. Thank you once again and please be on the lookout for our next reading adventure.”

  • Make Maya Angelou Proud!

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

Thank you, thank you, and thank you for your contributions to our classroom! Thanks to you, my scholars were able to use their notebooks to brainstorm different ideas relating to the texts, The Skin I'm In by Sharon Flake and Monster by Walter Dean Myers. My scholars were also able to evaluate different narrative styles of writing as they are now writing their own narratives.

Additionally, I am proud to say that my scholars are also using the back of their notebooks as a glossary. This year, our team is not only building writers, but we are elevating students by building their vocabulary. This would not have been possible if it were not for donors like you!

After we finish up this unit on narratives, we will be moving forward to our argument unit. Please wish my students "good luck" as they debate and learn the art of an argument.”

  • Write Until You Can't Anymore!

    Funded Aug 1, 2023

Thank you so much for helping my scholars obtain books so that they can continue their writing journey this year! It is still the beginning of the school year, however, our scholars have used their journals to write responses to texts such as The Skin I'm In by Sharon G. Flake and Monster by Walter Dean Myers.

Thanks to you, our scholars were also able to respond to real-world problems that related to the texts. Additionally, our scholars were able to evaluate narratives by different authors and take notes on different skills in their notebooks.

We are also proud to say that we have started a glossary in the back of their books so that they can continue to build their vocabulary and use their book as a reference! As for our next steps, we are getting ready to step into our argument unit and debate! Please wish my scholars "good luck" on their continued journey in ELA. Thank you!”

  • Breakfast, Breakfast, Breakfast Time

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

Thank you for your donations towards breakfast with my middle school students. Thanks to you, my middle schoolers were able to have cereal in the morning when they came inside of class--even if they were late. Additionally, my scholars were able to snack in the afternoon when they ran out of energy. I am also excited to say that because of your donations, our scholars were able to have additional snacks while they tested this year and this made them have less anxiety and feel more comfortable. The snacks have also been a solution to issues with discomfort during the day.”
