A New Home for Our Class Books
Funded Apr 9, 2019It is absolutely magical how this single bookshelf has completely changed the look of the classroom. This bookshelf has organized the class library and has given a fresh, new appeal to the novels that sit on the shelves. I love walking into my workspace and seeing this beautiful bookshelf covered with my favorite novels. Even more so, I love walking in and seeing my kids perusing the shelves!
The students teased me for a bit because the task of building the bookshelf was a bit daunting. Pieces sat at the front of the room for several days while I worked up the courage to work a power tool. However, the second it was built the students were so excited. Several times throughout the period they would get up just to look at the novels -that had been in the room all year-because they were displayed so beautifully on this shelf.
We absolutely love this addition to our classroom and can't thank you enough for your contribution. This bookshelf will be loved for many classes to come!”

Funded Aug 23, 2018This chair is so LOVED! I don't think a piece of furniture has ever felt so much love as this chair has. The kids have even named it "Bernie" and boy, do they love Bernie. It so awesome to see my students light up when they walk in and ask if they can sit in "the fancy chair."
They will sit in the chair to read. They will sit in the chair to take notes. They will sit in the chair to do homework. They will sit in the chair during a break. It is never empty!
Having this nice chair has created a wonderful learning environment for my students, which in turn has made me love my job even more. Thank you so much for your part in bringing "Bernie" into our lives.”

Funded Aug 22, 2018These balance discs have been an awesome addition to the classroom. Our classroom routine quickly evolved to a point where students arrive early to grab their disc so they can use it at their seat. The students were absolutely thrilled to put them to good use. At first, I thought it would be my Freshmen classes who would get the most use out of them (and they definitely do), but it has been my Juniors who absolutely fell in love with the discs. The Juniors were like a bunch of little kids on Christmas when the discs arrived.
Our classes are 100 minute block periods and it can be a challenge to sit still that long. Being able to sit on the discs has given my students the opportunity to stay true to their individual body needs while also focusing on their education. Thank you so much for your part in this gift to my students. It has already had such an amazing impact on my students.”

Funded Sep 14, 2018I can not thank you enough for these books. My students absolutely lit up when I opened up the box. They were so excited to check out these brand new novels with pretty, engaging covers. A few of my students said, "I don't even like reading but I'm totally going to read this." It was so awesome to listen to them read off the back covers and make plans as to which novels they wanted to read. There were so many students who wanted to borrow novels at the end of class that I had to ask them to wait patiently until our next class so I can get a system set up for them to take the novels home. I'm already so excited to see the impact these novels have on my students as they get motivated to read. Thank you so so so so much!”

Mint-to-be Flexible Seating Lap Tables
Funded Aug 21, 2018I was so excited for today as it was the first day my students had the opportunity to use their new lap tables. We read the "Cask Of Amontillado" by Edgar Allen Poe in class. In my English 1 classes, I always suggest students make themselves comfortable while we read so that they can really get into the story. I've always tried to have different options for them for seating, and today I was able to announce that they could grab a lap table to take notes on while we read. The students who choose to sit on the floor with a pillow were so excited that they didn't have to use their textbooks as a writing surface. I kept hearing "Can I try one?" "This is so much better!" "Look they match the walls! They're so pretty."
We also have a campus-wide tutorial period where the students can receive help on assignments, makeup tests, or collaborate with peers. There is no seating chart or structure, it is a period just for the students to do what they need to do. It was really cool to see them find the perfect corner in the classroom to scrunch up with their lap tray to get their work done on a Chromebook. A few of them told me how nice it was to be to be comfortable and get their work done at the same time. I really enjoyed watching them make the lap trays work for them.
These students are the absolute best and make coming to work every day so rewarding. When I told them that the lap trays were donated by various donors, they were shocked that people who don't know them personally cared about their education. They were so touched by the donation. I'm so beyond grateful for your contribution to this project because for one it really is changing the classroom dynamic already and second of all for making my kids feel important.”
