  • Essentials for the Woodshop

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

The resources that we received from this project have been put into use right from the moment we received the box. We begin our year with safety practices and the use of hand tools, which make these items essential.

Our students were able to work on updated boards to help them practice their skills with the screwdrivers and power drivers. After reflecting on our previous year, I also wanted to make time to go over the skill of taping off areas and measuring accurately, which makes the painter's tape really useful.

Our students will soon start working on holiday projects using the skills that they have worked on over the last month of school. We are extremely grateful to all those that donated to this project and understand the importance of this career readiness program.”

  • Comfy Clean Classroom

    Funded Sep 7, 2022

Thank you so much for your donation to our classroom. We have been using our new comfy chairs during our independent group time, which has helped our students feel more secure with not having an adult with them in this group. The students were so excited when they first saw the chairs, we had to all take turns learning how to sit in them and get up from them. For our students with moderate to severe disabilities, we want to foster as much independent behavior in a safe environment as possible and these materials help us achieve this goal.”

  • Connecting with Technology

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

In our classroom, technology is essential to ensuring kids have access to our curriculum and a way of communicating. Our projector is an essential piece of equipment that is used daily in our classroom for kids to express their feelings with each other and to explore content areas through pictures, books, and videos. In some of the pictures, you can observe students using their handmade telescopes to explore space.

My students have been extremely excited about our new robot friend botley! You can also see students creating obstacles for our robot during our St. Patrick's day celebration. They were able to create obstacles in order to catch a leprechaun. This has given my students another way of expressing their creativity and critical thinking skills.”

  • Essentials for the Behind the Scenes Prep

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

Thank you for your generous donations! My students have been immersed in technology like never before during this pandemic. Students are not only having to learn to do math and English, but also how to function zoom and online curriculum. The materials purchased in this project have helped my students stay on task more throughout the day, as there are many distractions at home. They also have made my teaching more engaging for the students.

Mostly, my students are most excited when they get to use the materials that make them feel like they have their own workspace and they feel grown up like mom and dad. Thankfully I have great parent support as well, so they have some great models.

As shown in the photos attached to this project, students are engaged in their work and are now displaying actual camaraderie with their fellow peers even over the computer.”

  • Express Yourself! (I’m Expressing With My Full Capabilities)

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

Thank you for your generous donation! My students were extremely excited to receive their new materials when I went to their houses. My students acted as if it were Christmas because of all the new things they were receiving.

We have been using our beginning sounds manipulative a during alphabet time to promote student speaking and recalling skills. I created communication boards for the students with the materials received so that students have an easier time transitioning from task to task, and also expressing their feelings throughout the day.

As seen in the pictures attached to this project, students used their communication boards as a model to draw how they were feeling that morning. My next steps for this are to have my students use these boards to create more meaningful communication with their peers and the adults around them. I also will be creating sentence frames using the materials that we have left to promote the expansion of their phrases while speaking and writing.”

  • STEM at Home

    Funded Aug 10, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donations of these science books. My students have used these books to introduce them to topics like the senses and the life cycle of a plant. These books give my students something tactile that they can have at home, which makes these topics more engaging.

My students are at different levels of reading capabilities, so reading time is broken into groups. In these groups some of our students work on identifying parts of the story in the illustrations on the page, others focus on the specific vocabulary used, and others are focused on the page concepts.

In the pictures attached to this project, my students are performing a science project after reading one of our books. These books help my students have information to back their hypotheses or as a reference to see what step comes next.”

  • Exploring With Science

    Funded May 30, 2019

Thank you so much for your generation donation of science materials to our classroom. We have been actively using these materials frequently. We have been growing plants in our new root viewer. We also have been using our file folder games to examine the parts of plants and the life cycle. Our globe has been coming in handy, as we are also talking about where we live and what other countries our families may have come from.

My class was so thrilled to see all the new materials we received. The globe was extra special, because the kids loved how it was so much bigger and points on the globe are easier to see, compared to the small globe we used to use. We will continue to use these materials, especially next month, as we will be studying the scientific process and will be completing multiple science projects for a science fair!”

  • Sit back, Relax, and Enjoy the Lesson!

    Funded Oct 7, 2017

I wanted to express my thanks again for your donation to our classroom. We use our new seating during our whole group time almost every day. My very active students find the wobble chairs beneficial while having to listen to instruction, because it keeps them on task. Additionally, the soft seats have been fun for the students during games where we are practicing our colors. We play a musical chairs game where they have to not only find a seat, but they have to tell me the color of the cushion that they are sitting on as well.

My students were elated when they first saw the boxes come into the classroom. We opened them together, and I then demonstrated how they were to be used and treated. They were so excited, and now they know that when they feel uncomfortable, they can ask to use the cushions.

Many of my students have behavioral goals where they must stay on task for extended amounts of time, so these seats have been helpful to ensure that we are putting them in an environment where they are increasingly likely to succeed!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Garibay

My students need to be able to perform simple tasks like tying their shoes, buttoning their shirts, and zipping their pants. I am asking for fine motor activities resources that will help my students practice these skills while enhancing their fine motor abilities all around. These resources and activities can be used during our center groups, so that each student has the time to repeatedly practice and strengthen their fine motor skills with the assistance of an adult. The dressing frames will help my students work on their abilities to fasten their own clothing independently during toileting times at home and in school. The tweezers and fill it up jars will assist my students on honing their fine motor abilities to complete tasks such as moving small objects, writing, and grasp. The more our students are able to practice using the muscles in their hands, the more strength they will have to use them effectively and independently.
