When we started distance learning in March, we were not given much time to prepare. While planning activities for our students, we continued to run into the problem of not knowing exactly what our students had at home. Because we couldn't guarantee that students had what they needed for the hands-on activities we wanted to assign, we had to settle for a lot of online activities instead. We know that young children learn best with fun, hands-on activities. Looking ahead to the fall with new first graders, we want to make sure we can provide them with hands-on learning no matter where that learning is taking place. If we continue with distance learning, these items will be given to students to have at home. If we are back in school, but needing to separate supplies and socially distance, we will use these as individual supply kits in the classroom. We will be able to teach in the hands-on way we know is developmentally appropriate for six to seven year old children.
