I need your help with creating a positive and welcoming learning environment for all of my students. As this new school year approaches, I know I will have a lot more students who will have a difficult time sitting in their assigned desks for a long period of time. Most of my students had a very difficult time focusing when connecting from home this past year as they didn’t have seating choices when it was time for them to join my class. On the other hand, very few students definitely found a comfortable spot at their home to join my class via zoom without distraction. Transitioning from distance learning to in person learning will be a major transition for all of them; therefore, I want to create a welcoming space and give every student options as in where to sit. This is why I am asking for your help—giving my students a variety of options to sit at will increase student engagement, improving overall behavior. Moreover, flexible seating will help meet the unique needs of all learners. I understand that flexible seating will function differently for every student; ultimately, my goal of incorporating flexible seating is to engage and empower every student with choices.
The products that I have chosen to make my classroom a more welcoming and positive environment for my students are portable lap desk, wobble chairs, stools, active motion stools, lightweight foam seating set, balance balls, and bean bags. These products are going to help my 5th graders as they will benefit from plenty of movement which will help burn extra energy, increase motivation and engagement. I am really hoping that having different seating choices in my classroom will help my students as they settle back in the classroom after a whole year of distance learning.
