With these materials, my students will be able to access and utilize a well-equipped sensory room at regular intervals throughout the day. Our sensory room is a space that our students really enjoy- it gives them a safe place to run, jump, spin, swing, bounce, relax, decompress, and have an opportunity to manage the energy and input that builds up for Autistic folks. I love to engage with them in that space, where they are free to be as energized and silly, or as calm and quiet, as they need to be. My students need a LOT of support to help them regulate their bodies and minds and prepare for learning, and these materials will give them that outlet! All of these items have been chosen with my students and their needs in mind. My students are significantly more attentive, calm, and better able to regulate and self-soothe when they can utilize sensory tools like these every day. After they've had sensory time, they are able to settle, be at ease, and continue learning. For now we do our best at this with the few items we currently have, but these materials would make a WORLD of difference in what we can do for our students. I am so excited for the chance to have a fully furnished sensory room with equipment that will support my students for years to come!
