  • Special Needs Authors Need Adapted Writing Tools!

    Funded Jun 24, 2015

I write this letter with so much gratitude. The impact you have made on the students in my classroom has just begun, but I am already seeing huge benefits! You have provided my students and classroom with adapted writing materials such as pencil grips, weighted pencils, and a slant board. Those may seem like very small tokens, but they are honestly quite expensive! These adapted tools are made for individuals with fine motor delays to assist them in writing. I have seen my class flourish with access to these items. The slant board has been really helpful for a student who needs papers secured to an area before he can write. Thank you so much for your generosity. Truly - one million thanks!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Szczecinski

  • Basic Needs In Our Special Education Classroom

    Funded Oct 6, 2015

I write to offer you a million thanks in return for your generous donation to our classroom! Today we used the Theraputty to warm up their little fingers before a writing activity. They absolutely loved it! The putty comes in a variety of resistances so it can meet the needs of all of my students. Also, it's not messy at all (the best part!). I have already been making new activities, like address boards, for my students using the lamination pouches. Laminating things allows us to use them over and over and keeps them durable. Without you, we would go without, or I would purchase these materials myself. Thank you for helping and standing in the gap for us!”

  • Building Our Independence in Special Education Class!

    Funded Jul 22, 2015

Wow! Thank you SO much for your heart to donate to my deserving students. The project that you have supported has provided us with materials that will greatly help my students in building independence. A vacuum, a shredder, a food scale and Clorox wipes may sound like strange primary classroom items, but they are perfectly normal for us! These materials will help my students learn typical and common job skills so that they can become the best at their future job. My dream is for all of my students to be confident members of the working world some day, and this project will certainly help them to do so. Thank you for believing in us.”

  • Help Our Special Ed Classroom Get Organized!

    Funded Jun 23, 2015

Hello fabulous donors! I write to tell you THANK YOU, a million and one times, for supporting our classroom in such a tangible way. These organizational materials have been so helpful. The dish rack has served its purpose well as our iPad holder, and our multiple charging station has helped them stay fully charged to avoid them running out of batteries mid use. The shelving units have been especially helpful in running our classroom centers. Each of the adults in the classroom now has a special spot for each group's work so there is no confusion. In a time when special education classrooms are having their budgets slashed, I am so grateful that I can count on the generosity of others to keep my classroom running smoothly. You are a hero to us.”

  • Special Needs Learners Looking for Language Arts Fun!

    Funded Jun 7, 2015

Hello, fantastic donors! We finally received our donations from this project that was funded over the summer. The STAR Autism Language Arts program has already become such an awesome staple in our classroom! I absolutely love using it with my higher reading groups! Each week we complete one lesson, and each lesson is already planned out with a visual activity strip (helping my students know what task to do next!), really fun and engaging manipulatives, and a script for me to use. Not only do the activities really help boost my students skills, but it is so easy for me to execute and makes for so much less planning for this busy teacher. One million thanks for helping to make my classroom a wonderful place of learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Szczecinski

  • Everything Needs a Place in our Special Ed Classroom!

    Funded Aug 24, 2015

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. I am so excited to have enough chair sacks for each of my students! Many of them struggle with organization, but are more independent and work best when clutter is minimized. These chair sacks will definitely be a key piece in helping my students towards being organized. Also, each sack has a spot for their name so there will be no more silly arguing over chairs! Without your generosity we would never obtain these materials. Thank you for believing in us!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Szczecinski

  • Sitting in Style: A Special Chair for Special Needs Kids!

    Funded May 5, 2015

Hello! This exhausted teacher comes to you SO THANKFUL! On Friday, I unpacked our new "Keekaroo" chair and put it together. Today, Monday, I was able to introduce it to my student and customize it to her size. It is perfect! Not only does the chair fit her, but it keeps her safe and allows her to feel grounded. I am thrilled to know that the chair's customization features will allow it to grow with her. When she leaves my classroom, I am sure it will be suitable for a new student. I am so thankful for your thoughtfulness and generosity!”

  • Interactive Technology in Our Special Education Classroom!

    Funded Jan 12, 2015

Hello! This note comes with one thousand and one "thank you"'s for the interactive technology supplies that you gave to our classroom! We are so blessed to have an interactive whiteboard in our classroom that we use for our large group instruction. This interactive whiteboard is kind of like a giant iPad. The interactive technology that you supplied is used every day on our whiteboard. These games are so motivating - with fun visuals, sounds, and a variety of interactive components. My students LOVE getting their turn with the interactive games. We have really loved the number identification game as well as the vocabulary games. My students are truly learning to love school through these supplies.”

  • Differentiation at Its Finest in Our Special Ed Classroom!

    Funded Apr 10, 2015

Luckily I was already able to send you a picture of our sound puzzles in action (THANK YOU!) but let me go into depth on the reason we needed these puzzles. I have a kindergartner in my classroom this year with a "developmental delay", which is a fancy way of saying "we are not sure what your disability is yet". She has extremely low muscle tone, difficulty keeping her mouth closed (which results in a lot of drooling), and has a significant cognitive delay. On top of it, she came into my class this year only speaking Spanish! These number and alphabet sound puzzles are something she can do independently as she learns her letters and numbers, AND they repeat the letter name and number name as she places them into the correct spot. We have nothing in our classroom, until now, that can benefit her like these simple puzzles. THANK YOU, Jenna for your heart to help my students!”

  • New Years Resolution: Organize Our Special Ed Classroom!

    Funded Feb 6, 2015

This messy teacher can truly not say enough "thank yous" for all of the organizational tools and materials you helped fund for my classroom! By nature, I am NOT (seriously) an organized person, but due to the unique needs of my students, I REALLY need to be. My students greatly benefit from a highly structured classroom where they can navigate it with ease. Our new materials have really helped get me on the road to organization. I especially love our new classroom mailboxes. They have really helped my students become more independent with their beginning and end of the day routines. Without you, we would never have these materials. Thank you so much for your generosity.”

Our school is a therapeutic day school program whose task is to provide emotional support and academic opportunities to children who have been unable to succeed in community school settings due to emotional, learning, and behavioral difficulties. The majority of our students live at a residential children's home and are wards of the state. Our school runs as a trauma-informed program, aiming to help our students grow from their pasts and learn how to cope in effective ways. Despite the challenges that our students face, they are incredible children. Their resiliency, love for learning, and curiosity are truly inspiring. I strive to make my classroom a welcoming and safe community and to help my students explore learning and grow into independent and productive citizens.
