  • Just Velcro Please! Necessities for our Special Ed Class

    Funded Dec 8, 2015

Velcro, what a funny request, right? Not in my classroom! I was beyond excited to get an entire box full of sticky-back Velcro right at my classroom door. These velcro "coins" (little sticky circles) are like GOLD - and unfortunately are expensive. I use velcro for my students to share their knowledge through adapted books, matching like pictures, sorting items, etc. Many of my students cannot talk or write at this time, so assessing them is quite challenging without thinking outside the box. I am grateful that I do not need to reach into my pocket to purchase Velcro for awhile. Thank you SO much for meeting this very real need!”

  • New Cozy Rug Needed for our Special Education Classroom

    Funded Dec 2, 2015

WOW! Thank you so, so much for your generous donation towards our much needed classroom rug. Our rug is used several times per day, including circle time, group time, and play time. It is colorful, larger than our last rug, and has large numbers on it. The numbers have been such a fun, added piece to some of our daily routines. Each morning we practice counting items and finding the number using our interactive whiteboard. Now, after they find the number, they have to jump on the matching number on our new rug. They LOVE it! Without your generosity, we would never be able to obtain a new rug like this. Our district's budget is extremely small, especially for special education classrooms. Thank you for making our new rug a reality!”

  • Winter Clothes for Special Education Students!

    Funded Nov 24, 2015

WOW! Thank you so much for funding our unique project request. The faces on my students after I explained what snow pants were (they didn't even know!) were so funny. They were confused, excited, and a few kept saying, "So soft!" Their parents were thrilled, as many of them avoid taking them out in snowy weather. The mittens were another story. My students got into a single file line for me to put their new mittens on at the end of the day. Gloves are SO hard for my students to put on because of their fine motor delays. These mittens will make all the difference this winter. Thank you, SO much, for your generosity towards my special and deserving students.”

  • Interactive Technology for a Special Ed Classroom

    Funded Nov 24, 2015

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my deserving classroom. These interactive technology programs are going to be SO helpful for my students over time. We have gotten started with some of our programs and they already love them. They are engaging, fun, themed with cute characters, and of course, target really important skills. We have also been practicing turn taking and social skills by having each child choose the next peer to have a turn. I cannot wait to see how they grow across the year with our new, fun materials. Thank you for believing in us.”

  • Seasonal Books for a Special Education Classroom!

    Funded Nov 30, 2015

Thank you so much for your kind and generous donation. The money that you provided for this project allowed us to get TONS of seasonal books. We have already started reading the winter and Christmas books, which my students LOVE. I have one student that always grabs "Llama, Llama, Holiday Drama!" during his choice time. He loves looking through the pictures and asking teachers to read it to him. Books are essential for a primary classroom, and mine is no exception. Thank you for standing in the gap and providing for what we cannot. You are a hero to us!”

  • Special Olympics Uniforms for Inner City Kids

    Funded Jul 28, 2015

Wow. We are so beyond thankful for the funding of this project! Our school has about 35 students who participate in a variety of Special Olympics events each school year. From track and field, to baseball, to Young Athletes, our kiddos do it all. But, unfortunately, we do not have uniforms to make them really feel like the athletes that they are. These t-shirts, though it may seem small, will bring unity, pride, and a sense of "team" to our special athletes. Many of them have never belonged to a sports team because of their disabilities, and now they can really feel the part. Thank you SO much for bringing such an important material to our amazing athletes.”

  • Safety First! Life Skills Learning in our Special Ed Class!

    Funded Nov 10, 2015

Hello, Google! I am overwhelmed by your company's generosity. It is hugely uplifting to know that such a big corporation sees us, understands our needs, and supports the value of educating and supporting children with special needs. Our life skills materials have already been put to good use. We have used the interactive software during our large group time, and after winter break, we will begin using the related worksheets. My students will be community and safety skills experts, thanks to you.”

  • Just Right Materials for a Special Education Classroom

    Funded Nov 10, 2015

I am still in shock that we have been able to obtain so many meaningful, engaging, and "just-right" materials this school year solely from the generosity of outside donors like yourselves. This school year, we have 2 new students who are in need of working on very basic skills, like sorting by size, shape, and color. These students are working on staying seated for longer periods of time, and tolerating completing work tasks that may not be their favorite. These materials are perfect for working with these students. The bright colors and hands on nature of the materials make them so much more kid friendly than some of our worn out items. My students ALL deserve the best we have, and thanks to you, they're now getting it.”

  • Special Books for a Special Education Classroom!

    Funded Nov 10, 2015

I am so thrilled to have received our gigantic package of books for our classroom. How amazing that your company was generous enough to donate towards projects for our most vulnerable students??! I unpacked each book, labeled them, and added them to our classroom library. When my students returned from gym class, they saw all of the Pete the Cat and Dinosaur books and ran straight to the library! I have never seen them so excited about books in my three years of being their teacher. Thank you for making books come to life for my class, and for being so willing to give of your resources to help my deserving students.”

  • Bring Light to Learning in Our Special Ed Class!

    Funded Oct 21, 2015

I am so happy to report that our brand new Light table has already been such a hit!! Our sensory seeking students have really responded to the flashing lights and colors on the table. I see my students exploring with the translucent letter and number tiles and sorting the related toys and manipulative's by size and color. It is so fun to watch! Without the generosity of outside donors, we could never afford expensive yet highly engaging materials such as these. You are opening doors and creating memories and experiences that my class would likely not get otherwise.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Szczecinski

Our school is a therapeutic day school program whose task is to provide emotional support and academic opportunities to children who have been unable to succeed in community school settings due to emotional, learning, and behavioral difficulties. The majority of our students live at a residential children's home and are wards of the state. Our school runs as a trauma-informed program, aiming to help our students grow from their pasts and learn how to cope in effective ways. Despite the challenges that our students face, they are incredible children. Their resiliency, love for learning, and curiosity are truly inspiring. I strive to make my classroom a welcoming and safe community and to help my students explore learning and grow into independent and productive citizens.
