Student Book Club
Funded Sep 13, 2022Thank you so much again for supporting my book club project. I had this project up for a few months and didn't think it was going to get funded---so you can imagine how pleasantly surprised I was to receive that notification that the project did get funded! One of the main reasons why I created this Book Club project was to show my students that there is pleasure and fun in reading. Most of the students that I work with are very far behind their peers in terms of reading skills and need extra support in the foundational skills. I use these books as motivation and for goal setting. So it was incredibly exciting for my students to see this large box of fun, engaging, and leveled text for them read. Your generosity and support have made a great impact on my class---many thanks again!”

Funded Jan 25, 2018Thanks to your support of our project of flexible seating, we've become quite the busy bees. Students are more engaged and willing to concentrate for longer periods time because they are able to choose where and how they will sit.
In our classroom, we now have some more choices from them to select on their work stations. It has been a great tool in learning how to share and to wait patiently for turns also. We have really become a community and we understand the concept of being fair and being kind. The flexible seating opportunities have also allowed students to become decision makers in having them choose where and what seat will support in their productivity. We are so fortunate to have donors like you who actively support my students learning--much thanks again!”

Funded Jan 26, 2018Thank you again for your generous support in providing a classroom rug for my students. They were so happy when the rug arrived and immediately wanted to help unroll it and to do a sharing circle.
This rug provides a visual spot for my students to sit and gather--it really is a community center for them. This is where they can meet to play, read, and share. Your support of my project really helps with the classroom management of our class and really helps complete the character of the room.
So from all of us in Room 18, thank you again for your support and donation for our classroom rug!”

Funded Dec 20, 2017Thank you for your generous donation and support to our classroom project, "Full S.T.E.A.M Ahead". This project allows my student to have access to various building games and kits to explore the concept of how things work and how to problem solve. My students are naturally inquisitive and can be risk takers, having access to these materials would provide a more structured and direct emphasis of learning about how things work and how they can create their own "machines" to solve problems.
Your support of this project has helped my students to become 21st century learners by engaging them in inquiry, problem solving, and innovation. Thank you again for your support!!”

Funded Sep 20, 2017Thank you very much for your generous support for our project. We really needed a color printer in our room to really bring to life our student writing/research projects. By having this resource in our room, it allows my students to be able to personally choose what picture or graphic they think works best with their writing piece. It was very exciting for them when they first saw that big package arrive in the mail. They were even more excited to learn that it was color printer that they could use. I am very fortunate to work with such an enthusiastic bunch and they are truly grateful for this donation to our classroom!! We are also planning on using the scanning feature in the future to incorporate their own drawings or graphs in their writing. Thank again for your donation!!”

Funded Sep 26, 2015I just wanted to you all know how grateful and appreciative we are in my classroom for your donation to our classroom. Being that technology is an important part of the 21st century experience, your donation has allowed my students to have access to items that will support them in their learning.
I am very excited to report that your donations, helped us purchase 3 Chromebooks in our room. Students are learning how set up their own emails and how to select and download the everyday apps that we use in our schools, such as the Jiji math program and Accelerated Reader. What we are most excited to use the Chromebooks is to participate in the "Hour of Code" movement, though it is called "Hour of Code", we plan our developing and fostering our learning for computer coding all year long. Having Chromebooks that are new really makes a difference on what kind of software and apps are supported in the new platforms. We spend far less time waiting for items to download or sometimes just suddenly quitting in mid download.
Thank you again for your support in our learning. Your donations have enabled my students to become real 21st century learners!”

Funded Sep 15, 2014Thank you for the amazing donation to my Wiggle, Wiggle, Wiggle project. Because of your generosity my students are able to have a choice in their seating. Though it seems like insignificant detail, for my students the alternative choice allows them to move while sitting down which is beneficial for their concentration. Being able to move while working helps many of them stay focused and they are able to complete their assignments.
Also because of the design of the Hokki Stools, it is so much easier and quicker to put together leveled groups and I am able to work at a closer proximity with my students instead of bending a different angles or having to kneel / squat next to them. The design of the stool also helps with student's own balance and body control. They are more aware of sitting up and feeling grounded. This has been such a useful tool in our classroom!
Again, thank you for this incredible gift!”

Ms. Yeh
There's an APP For That
Funded Sep 15, 2014Words cannot express how much your organization has changed the environment of learning in our classroom and student's motivation in learning. When we received the notice that our project had been funded, it felt like we had won the lottery! And in many ways, we had won! Being new to my school site has been challenging in terms of what materials are available, especially since it is also a new grade level for me too. And technology is always a high demand but short on supply. Because of my great colleagues, I was informed about the wonderful organization of Donors Choose and just exactly what it was and what it does. At first it was hard to believe that total strangers would be so willing to give but as I enter my second year on Donors Choose, it is true—the spirit of kinship is alive and well!
The students excitement and anticipation of getting Ipads in the classroom was palpable and infectious. Everyday after getting the notice, they would eagerly ask about the delivery. Whenever the phone rang or their was an announcement over the speaker, you could feel their excitement of this is it, this could be the day that the wonderful / magical Ipads would come! And when that day came, you could tell it was going to be a very memorable day for them. Much cheering and some jumping accord when that box came. The excitement and cheering were expected but what was not was the reverence that they had when we talked about the procedures, routines, and rules of using the Ipad. They were very serious about this component and it really should me a different side of their maturity—a great responsibility was being given to them. I knew that learning and engagement would be impacted but I was not prepared for the impact in their own level of social responsibility. I have students who usually have a hard time joining peers, actively working with their groups and taking a leadership role or volunteering to help or offering "tips" on how to win at certain "games". That has been most surprising for me!
Because of your generosity my students are able to have access to an unlimited source of information. We can look up interactive maps or listen to how to pronounce vocabulary words. We are able to practice our fine motor skills with special apps that allow us to trace, pinch, spin, or tap to help exercise our finger muscles. We are becoming experts in using recording devices to create our own stories, music, and even movies. The resource that you have provided for us has made education come alive in our classroom. The interactive technology that the Ipad provides makes school engaging and memorable, which makes my students want to come to school everyday. This is such an important attitude to develop in elementary school, to give students a purpose and excitement to want to come to school. This donation has created an impact that will long accompany them on their educational experience, that school can be exciting and there is so much to learn about the world about them. So thank you, thank you, thank you GoogleLA!”

Ms. Yeh
Magic Carpet Ride
Funded Dec 23, 2013Thank you so much for your support and generosity! The students were so excited to have such a fun and colorful rug in the room. Now the library is one of our favorite places to start and end our day. It is great place to just relax with a book and having the squares helps with learning about personal space. We are also using this rug to learn about quadrants and how to give directions using the words north, south, east, and west. Also, sometimes we play our own version of "Twister" to get the wiggles out! Thank you again!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Yeh
