Funded Dec 21, 2019My students were so excited when the boxes came from donor choose. They could not wait to see what new items we received for our classroom. When I opened the boxes and they saw the new books, games, and shelves they were jumping for joy. We put the book shelves right up on the front board to display all the book highlights for the week/month.
All of the books that we did recieve were non fiction for the children to explore and learn about new topics. We were coming up to our non-fiction unit inn Readers workshop and the children needed to have some experience with these types of books. We practiced with them independently and with our partners. They even got so excited that they wanted to share with their third grade buddies.
From this point moving forward we are going to strengthen our reading powers and our love for reading by incorporating these new items into our everyday learning. My students and I are very grateful for all you have done. thank you all so much.”

Funded Nov 27, 2018Thank you so much for the donations to fund our little leveled readers. We are using these books in small guided reading groups to teach the basics of reading. I am working with the students to look at the pictures, point to the words as they read, search for sight words, and tackle difficult words by getting their mouth ready for the letter the word begins with. These skills help the students build up their reading and become stronger readers.
We have 4 small reading groups and rotate in literacy centers, one being read with the teacher. When the students come to my table they first look at the book and take a picture walk and we discuss what the book may be about. Then we look for sight words and some difficult words that may be specific to the picture. We then take turns reading one page at a time. Then the students read the book to themselves as I target individual skills for each learner.
My lower reading group started with these new books first and truly have been enjoying them. The simplicity and the colorful pictures, along with the cute titles are a great starting point for the children in the class. They get excited for the new books every week. This has been a great addition to our class.”

Flex Seating During Reading!!!
Funded Oct 25, 2018We are so excited to report that the flex seating project for our room in under way! We have places the new seating around the room and it is wonderful to see the children taking full advantage of being able to sit where they feel most comfortable. we are using the wobble stools at the reading table and the children are staying more focused and able to move around.
When these items were delivered to us the students were so excited. They could not wait to help me unpack them and get them placed around the room. it was so cute to see their input on the best placement for all the seats. They all had to try them out and see what ones they liked best.
We are still working on perfecting the flex seating to make it the most comfortable learning environment for all learners. We plan on incorporating more arrangements as we go along and have the students become more independent and able to be fully in charge of their work space and how they choose their area to sit.”
