I am incorporating a makerspace into my library so I can provide my students opportunities to learn and create. The makerspace I envision will include resources for crafting, engineering, coding, and robotics – resources that support the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) curriculum. Funding of this project will allow my students more opportunities to express their creativity, develop critical thinking skills and, again, realize that mistakes are opportunities to rethink, re-imagine, and refocus. As is typical of older school buildings, the library shelving is fixed and creating centers for a variety of activities can be challenging. A mobile cart will allow flexibility in being able to relocate makerspace resources as needed to benefit all library media center users.
