Binders for Future Scientists!

Funded Jun 14, 2019

My students love their new notebooks! Friday, they were given an activity to do on their own for the first time in 7th grade Science. Thirty-six panicked faces looked back at me as they wondered how to complete the assignment. They had only been in school a week! How were they supposed to remember it all? I pointed to their notebooks and said, "Science isn't about memorizing the textbook, it's about knowing where to find it." Because of you I was able to provide this valuable lesson.

Since this is a brand new group of students, they have no idea how worn out the old notebooks were. They don't know how close they were to sharing and having to look over someone's shoulder to read. They have no idea how close I was to giving up on this idea and doing my part to save the environment. The textbooks in my classroom are often too high for my struggling readers to comprehend. Watching my students who, for the first time were able to read and understand science in text form was and is priceless.

The next step for this project is for students to LEARN! I look forward to scaffolding students and differentiating instruction so ALL students can be successful. I am so excited for this year and thankful for your help achieving my goal. I could not have done this without you!”

With gratitude,

Ms. Woods
