Kindergarten is a lot of fun, but also a lot of hard work! Kindergartners are expected to read at a level D by the end of the school year; many students begin the year without any knowledge about books, including how to hold them. This means that students will need to grow six reading levels, from print concepts to level D.
I am requesting K-Gr. 1 Levels A-E Book Bins. Having a leveled library will allow students to read texts that are at their reading level to support fundamental skills and build reading confidence. I also am asking for the books The Pout-Pout Fish, Those Shoes, We're All Wonders, A Sick Day for Amos McGee, The Invisible Boy, and First Day Jitters. These high quality stories will allow students to be exposed to a world outside our classroom during read alouds on the carpet. Books can be organized and stored with the Neon Connect & Store Book Bins.
The Educational Insights AlphaMagnets, Wooden Alphabet Stamp Set, and Uppercase Alphabet Rubber Stamps will support literacy development during small group centers and writing lessons.
Additional classroom supplies include pencil pouches, and scissors.
Learning to read is one of the most important things my students will do this year. These materials will not only help to teach them to read but build a classroom culture focused on literacy and fun. The more engaging our classroom library and literacy centers are, the more students will fall in love with reading. Without these fundamental skills, students will not be able to succeed in school or in life.
