A Book a Day Keeps Illiteracy Away!
Funded Mar 3, 2024I want to again say thank you for your generous and kind donation to my young classroom. The new texts we've introduced have brought exciting skills and lessons to our curriculum. Students are learning to identify characters, state the setting and other story elements, and make connections between the text and their own lives. Moreover, these books are teaching valuable lessons about empathy, diversity, and imagination, helping my young students become more well-rounded individuals.
Our reading time often involves sitting together on a cozy rug, looking at big, vibrant illustrations, and discussing what we see. We encourage children to make predictions about the story, identify letters and simple words they recognize, and share their thoughts about the characters and events. This approach not only nurtures a love for books but also develops crucial early literacy skills.
The new texts we've introduced are helping our TK students develop essential pre-reading skills. They're learning to recognize letters, understand that words are made up of sounds, and grasp the concept that text carries meaning. Through repetitive phrases and rhymes in these books, children are improving their phonological awareness. The stories also help expand their vocabulary and enhance their listening comprehension. Moreover, these carefully selected books teach valuable lessons about friendship, sharing, and exploring the world around them, which are crucial for social-emotional development at this age.”
With gratitude,
