Students will participate in an online collection of background information using science protocols (data collection procedures), and learning activities organized by Earth spheres: Atmosphere, Biosphere, Hydrosphere, and Pedosphere (Soil) based on The GLOBE Program initiative. The Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) Program is a worldwide science and education program that emphasizes on offering students worldwide the opportunity to participate in data collection and using the scientific process to contribute meaningfully to our understanding of the Earth system and global environment. Our year long research using GLOBE will connect students, teachers, scientists, and citizens from different parts of the world with each other in order to conduct real, hands-on science about their local environment and compare it in a global perspective. Students will use the tablets as an "on the go" data collection device to record information when we make trips to specific sites for collection, like central park. The laptops will be used to further research their findings and develop reports to share their findings from their exploration and take them into the other branches of science in order to identify connections between the sciences so students incorporate Scientific approaches and Engineering into their understanding of Global effects of human interactions on the Earth as a system. By doing these types of projects STUDENTS ARE THE SCIENTIST...that they read about and learn from, hence my moto...WE ARE THE SCIENCE!
