Picassos!
Funded Oct 13, 2015My students and I are sincerely thankful for your kind donation of art supplies to our classroom. We have been enjoying the markers, paint, canvases, water color papers, scissors and glue sticks that you provided. We have been using them to create many different projects including the current one about dreams and nature.
We entered juried exhibits namely one titled A taste of the Tropics. The subject matter refers to the local Miami flora and fauna with its typical scenes. We had so much fun painting sunsets, tropical fruits like mangoes, flowers like orchids and alligators lurking in the rivers. A couple of the pictures we uploaded show some of the best renderings of flowering vines and alligator scenes.
Our school needs to receive the title I government funding to sustain functionality in our classrooms. 98% of our student's population qualifies for free or reduced lunch because of their low household incomes. This explains why the visual arts are not usually as fully funded as the other core subjects that are considered priorities.
Nonetheless our students desperately need to be exposed to a wide variety of subjects to level the playing field with their counterparts in wealthier neighborhoods. For these reasons please understand how meaningful donations like yours are because of their impact in helping to close the achievement gap amongst our students who not only come from low-income families but also are English Language Learners.
We can never thank you enough for your generosity.”

Ms. Wawa
Let's Paint!
Funded Jan 13, 2015My students were in awe when they saw the sketchpads, paint, easels, canvasses, brush sets and aprons ready for them to use. They only had one question: When are we going to start painting?
First the students spent some time sketching different ideas for their paintings in their new sketchpads. Since it was going to be their first experience with painting on canvas, they reviewed different content and techniques before we agreed on individual subject matters. Then they learned as their work progressed how to correctly apply the paint to achieve their visual objectives.
My students have been eager to participate in that learning experience as they view painting on canvas as a form of expression for the true artists. For that reason, they were noticeably more attentive to learning new concepts. Furthermore, I was delighted to offer them new tools and medium to expand their technical skills.
This is an experience that both my students and I will never forget all thanks to your generosity.”

CreARTivity is Essential!
Funded Oct 24, 2014My students and I want give you a heartfelt thank you for your kind donation to our classroom. The construction papers, glue sticks, markers and scissors that you helped purchase were used by my students many times over to learn about color theory, shapes and patterns.
The students enjoyed the process of learning through these materials. As you can see in the pictures they were delighted to use them to celebrate Black History Month and Valentine's Day among other projects. They will keep on using them until the end of the school year.
Our school needs to receive the title I government funding to sustain basic functionality in our classrooms. 98% of our student's population qualifies for free or reduced lunch because of their low household incomes. That is why the visual arts is not provided with enough money to buy the most basic art material as other subject areas are considered priorities.
Our student demographic needs to be exposed to a diverse array of subject areas in the same manner as their counterparts in wealthier neighborhoods in order to level the education field. Therefore please understand how donations like yours are meaningful and impactful in helping to close the achievement gap amongst our students who not only come from low-income families but also are English Language Learners.
I thank you for that.”

Tiny Artists!
Funded Oct 4, 2013My students were thrilled to use the water color paper and the black sharpie markers. They had never used special water color paper before. They told me they felt privileged to have gotten the chance to use them to paint their Chinese New Year Cherry Blossoms Paintings.
The students had to first learn about Chinese New Year traditions and the importance of the Cherry Blossoms trees in Asian culture. They learned how to write their first name using Chinese calligraphy. Then they traced their Chinese characters with the black sharpies.
Finally the students traced their branches and learned how to paint using water colors. They painted their flowers while singing "Gong Hay Fat Choy" which means Happy New Year in Chinese.
Through this project the students not only learned about a new medium in art, but also about the Chinese culture and its New Year's traditions in particular. This was an unforgettable learning experience for my students thanks to your generous donation.
I thank you on behalf of my students.”

A Rainbow of Papers!
Funded Sep 21, 2013My students and I will never be able to thank you enough for your kind donation to my classroom. The construction papers that you helped purchase were recently used by my students to learn about body proportions and color contrast as they were cutting, gluing and coloring their paper costumes.
The students marveled at the new range of construction paper colors available to them. They will keep on using the remainder of the papers throughout the year to create more artwork.

Funded Oct 14, 2012Dear Donors,
My students and myself will never be able to thank you enough for your kind donation to my classroom. The projector that you donated has helped my students explore more thoroughly designs and drawing techniques, which are available on the Internet.
We have been using our projector to compare how different people celebrate Halloween and thanksgiving. Our next lesson using the projector will show how various cultures celebrate the winter holidays around the world.
