Art and Coloring With Clean Hands to Keep Us Healthy!
Funded Dec 3, 2021Your gift came right on time to support our Black History Month art project. The students used the palette packets containing all shades of skin colors to create a portrait of a prominent African American.
Most of them chose to portray Barack Obama inspired by the official presidential portrait created by Kehinde Wiley. The students were proud to celebrate not only Black History month with their artwork, but also President's Day.
Thank you for allowing my students to have the tools they needed to carry on such projects.”

Funded Dec 1, 2020I am so thankful for your generosity. The world needs more people like you during this challenging time. Our norms have been shaken everywhere with the Covid-19 Pandemic Crisis. As you can imagine, classroom routines have also deeply changed.
My students and I had to radically change the way we function, pivoting from an habitual physical classroom environment to a virtual set up. That's why we desperately needed extra laptops
I am still teaching online ever since this health crisis began. Needless to say that we cannot use any of the materials that you kindly helped purchase. In fact they are still in boxes secured in a safe place in my physical classroom.
The truth is I really don't know when we will be able to enjoy these materials again. But regardless of what is happening, you deserve our full gratitude for giving us the tools to create exciting projects in a hopefully near future. At that time, we will certainly entertain thoughts of gratitude towards you.
Stay well as my students and I sincerely thank you for your selfless generosity.”

At the time that I asked for help with getting art materials for my students, I was really excited at the prospect of using them to allow new experiences to take place. My students and I could not foresee that literally the following week after submitting this project that we were going to radically change the way we function, pivoting from an habitual physical classroom environment to a virtual set up.

Funded Dec 3, 2019You have given to my students the gift of wonder, excitement, creativity and craft. You have given them more than manikins and the ability to see me, their teacher demonstrate gesture lines live. You have given them a new set of open doors.
With the Drawing tablet attached to my teacher computer, I am now able to project live examples of drawings while explaining new concepts. This appears to be a simple addition to my teacher tools. Yet, it is powerful in supporting my detailed depictions of difficult concepts as the students are able to see what I am explaining as I speak. It allows me to go a step further in teaching new challenging skills because I am able to go back and repeat at will my explanations as I gauge my students' understanding.
As for the manikins, the students love them! I had to warn them several times that they were not toys and explain the reason why artists use them. I went into the details of a figure drawing lesson using the manikins as the main accessory to help the students understand how to draw better human silhouettes. They were captivated by the potential of the manikins in helping them succeed in their endeavors.
Thanks again on behalf of my students. The art room classroom learning environment just became a better place because of your generosity.”

Funded Dec 3, 2019Thank you for providing our students with ink cartridges. They are being used for printed materials to support their projects.
As a title 1 school located in an economically challenged urban area, it is difficult to get basics supplies like ink for printers. I had to get a printer through donorschoose because the printer that was in my classroom did not work.
Because this printer is not the typical printer used at my school, I cannot obtain ink from the school district supplier. Therefore I have to keep on purchasing myself the ink needed for my projects. Each ink cartridge is costly (around $70). With a teacher salary this added expense can become a burden.
I print, only when I have to, templates or rubrics for the students to use for their STEAM projects. Your gift makes it possible for our students to keep on working using all the tools and support they need.”

Funded Sep 23, 2019My students were thrilled to use the materials you helped buying to build hurricane-resistant model houses.
They used the papers, scissors and glue sticks to engineer their construction. They proceeded to use the watercolor markers to decorate their model houses according to their architecture design plans.
This was a STEAM project, which required them to use the Science ( hurricanes ), Technology ( research ) , Engineer ( construction ), Art ( design ) and Math ( calculations ).
They were able to create some wind resistant designs as I, their teacher, tested the strength of their constructions by blowing on their models with a blower.
My students had fun learning because of your generosity, and for that I thank you.”

Funded Sep 23, 2019I can't thank you enough for your generosity on behalf of my art students. It is one thing to make art. It is another to manage how and where to store it.
In the past I had to restrict the number of certain types of projects involving space and drying time because I didn't have the mean to manage them in my small art classroom space.
This issue has been solved thanks to the drying racks you helped provide to my students. Now I don't even think about "drying space management" as a reason not to explore a particularly elaborate and messy project.
For that I thank you.”

Funded Nov 27, 2018Because of your generous donation, I can now teach with an added layer of effectiveness in my art class using the Document Reader.
It was always challenging to show step by step processes to groups of 30 students. I used to repeat myself over and over because many students couldn't see what I was trying to show them.
As soon as I received the Document Reader that you donated, I modified the way I taught to include more live demonstrations. It was a game changer. The students loved it. They were able to see all the details of what I was teaching. The results were immediate in the quality and quantity of student attention, retention and extended learning. Behavior issues also have been greatly reduced as an added bonus.
Because of you my students can view the art world through a new window. Now my only trouble is making them leave the art room after a lesson!
Thank you for giving to my students a powerful tool to help open their mind to creativity. That is invaluable.
Happy Holidays from our class to you!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Wawa
