  • Structured Floortime Play

    Funded May 16, 2019

Thank you so much for your donation to our classroom! The students are learning how to go to our feelings carpet and find the face that describes how they are feeling. It's actually helped more than I could have imagined. Often times when a student is having an upset moment and they walk over to the sad face, they are distracted by the faces on the carpet and become more interested in looking at the faces around. Then no more tears!! The carpet really helps give the students a visual to look at while teaching social-emotional concepts.

The students were happy to join in at the new, bright, clan carpet with squares rug! The squares are helping them to learn boundaries and be more aware of space. It also gives us a clean area to do our sensory exercises that require us on the floor.

Our next steps are to continue to teach social emotional concepts to the students so that they may independently express their feelings and needs.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Watkins

  • Keep Cool!

    Funded Sep 18, 2018

It is with sincere gratitude that my students, the para-professionals, and myself thank you for fulfilling our request to help keep as cool. There is not just one moment, or one project, this air conditioning unit as allowed us to be cool everyday. Our building is primarily glass and when the sun shines, there is definitely a greenhouse effect. Most would not think that air conditioning is needed during the winter months.

Prior to having our unit, by 10:00 a.m. all of us would be so lethargic. Due to my students disability, they lacked the capability to expressively tell one that they feel hot. Instead there would be crying and or behaviors.

We are now breathing so much better now. We are able to get up and do music and movement without fear of falling out from heat exhaustion. This unit has simply provided continuous school years of a comfortable learning environment. Again, thank you so much for your kindness and generosity in helping create a comfortable learning environment.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Watkins

My students are vibrant, curious, brilliant and unique individuals! They come to school eager to learn and excited to be at school. My students come from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. They enjoy the routine and consistency that is provided throughout the day. They are primarily visual learners with rebel senses. They are funny, loving, and interesting little people! I also work with two wonderful paraprofessionals who love my students so! They are the two hardest working para-pros I have worked with.
