Calming Area
Funded Jan 4, 2023Thank you so much for helping me create a Calming Corner in my Special Day classroom. My students have been thriving with the new addition. The pandemic has really made the transition back to school challenging for many students; especially our primary students and those with special needs. Since returning to school full time, my students have been struggling with identifying their emotions, how to respond to their emotions, along with a safe space within our classroom.
When my students saw all the Amazon boxes, one would have thought it was a holiday like Christmas or another that brings youngsters such joy. I allowed everyone to pair up to help me unpack the boxes. Once unpacked, we did a mini show-and-tell where each group shared what was in their box and predict how each item will be used in our class. Some ideas were silly while others were spot on. Students were extremely excited once I officially set up our calming corner. It seemed as if they all needed to "take a break" at the same time so they could check things out.
Now that we have our calming corner established, along with books, emotion plushies, visual breathing strategies that will help support teaching students how to identify their different emotions, one of our next steps is to explicitly teach each emotion and possible triggers. Students will learn the physical signs such as facial expressions, and how the body feels while in that moment. I am looking forward to add to our calming corner. Maybe give it more of a warm fuzzy feel with an area rug and pillows and reading "buddies". Thank you again for all of your support.”

Old and Tattered Classroom in Need of Updates.
Funded Sep 27, 2019Thank you so much for your generosity in funding our "Old and Tattered" project. My students were ecstatic when they entered our classroom and saw their brand-new carpet. They dropped their backpacks and went to find their "spot" to sit. They now have room to stretch out when working in a small group or adequate "bubble space" during a whole group lesson.
The tablet charging station and headphones have been a life saver. The charging station has been a great tool in teaching my students more responsibility. They must make sure their tablets are on the charger and plugged in at the end of every day. The headphones assist in limiting noise distractions while other students are working at their designated center. I cannot thank you enough for all your help and support. You are very much appreciated by room 18.”

This classroom project was brought to life by District Partnership Program and 6 other donors.Supporting Small Group Instruction
Funded Dec 13, 2018Thank you so much for your donations for Supporting Small Group Instruction. These white boards have been a life saver in and out of our classroom. When I first demonstrated how the white boards were going to be used during our center rotations there were mixed feelings between staff and students. When the hands on learning began, that is when I had everyone on the same page. Change can be difficult. :)
Since receiving our white boards we have had to temporarily move out of our classroom. We took our boards with us. They have been a great resource fostering independence during Independent Work Time. During this time they work collaboratively practicing spelling and reading sight words. I have also used them as a support for our writing assessment. I write sentence frames and students need to copy the sentence and fill in the blank. This allows them to come up with their own answers rather than "borrow" from a friend.
Once we are able to move back into our classroom, my goal is to continue to use the white boards at each center but to also expand their use to support learning in other subject areas. I also want to have my students use them for peer instruction. This is where they would teach or support a peer who needs additional assistance.
Thank you again for all of your support.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Someone Who Cares and 5 other donors.Teaching Through Technology.
Funded Nov 15, 2018I cannot thank you enough for your generous donations to our technology project. Having received the 6 Fire 7 tablets for our class as done wonders. While many of my students have some sort of technological device at home, we only had one desk top computer in our classroom is over 10 years old. This made incorporating technology into the curriculum and learning extremely difficult.
We now use the tablets as an independent learning center. When students are at this center they are either using apps that promote reading, phonemic awareness and phonics, along with math facts and drills. Every morning when I great them they first thing they ask is "are we going to use the tablets today?". Of course I say yes and remind them that there is other work to do along with working on the tablets.
Thank you again for your generosity and support. It warms my heart knowing that are so many people out there that care and support our students the way you all have. Room 27 thanks you a million times over.”

Strengthening Our Math Skills
Funded Sep 28, 2017Thank you so much for your generosity and support with our "Strengthening Our Math Skills" project. My students were so excited when they got to help unwrap the Lakeshore boxes with our items. We immediately began using the file folder games at our math centers and the tub with the stamps, play dough, and counters was used as an independent center during our rotations.
This project and activities has boosted the confidence in my students. They have learned new skills such as measuring and the multiple ways items can be sorted. Most importantly, they are learning to work independently. Thank you again for your help and support with this project.”

Creating a Successful Learning Environment for Those With Exceptional Needs
Funded Sep 24, 2016Once again I would like to thank everyone who made such generous donations. My students were so excited every time we received a package and could not wait for each one to be opened. The Wobble chairs have been a great addition. Not only have they provided my students with an opportunity to wiggle while working, they have become apart of one student's sensory diet. The headphones are being used each month to reduce the noise during school wide assemblies and emergency drills. Lastly, our wireless color printer is allowing me to print from any computer or laptop in our classroom and create realistic visual supports that assist each student with their learning and the classroom environment.”
