Special Educators focus heavily on meeting our students individualistic needs in their learning environment. Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. Flexible seating stools and cushions will be used in GR centers to accommodate students in their learning. Currently my students are working in limited locations (table for GR) or laying across the rug/carpet. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. Student choice matters in this process of learning. The products that I have selected will help my students with special needs by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices in addition to providing them options according to their level of learning or specific academic needs. The wobble stools are adjustable and will allow students to sit at desk/higher tables but will still allow some movement. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. They can also be used as an alternative chair if needed! The storage bins will allow my students to access their individual differentiated work bins and make Guided Reading centers more accessible to them (with necessary visual cues & student labels). The stackable bins and flexible seating stools (balance boards) are lightweight and can be easily used or moved in many areas of the classroom. This will assist my students who have difficulties with whole body control and balance. The books on my list are culturally relevant readers that students can access in my culturally relevant library for students to read about impactful people that look like them! I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work/demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more this upcoming school year!
