My first grade classroom consists of twenty-four students. Our school is a K-6 building. My students are eager to read. At the beginning of the year, I have some students that are reading at level I. Level I is where we would like them to be reading at the end of first grade. For these students, the basal readers are easy! By providing them with leveled readers at their level, they are being challenged. It helps keep them engaged in their learning. I also have students that can only read a level C at the beginning of the year. By having more leveled readers this helps me give them more opportunities to read at that specific level.
