  • Keeping Cool Kids Warm All Winter!

    Funded Jan 8, 2024

Thank you so much for your support! The hats, gloves, and socks have been helping keep kids warm in over 10 different classrooms and all 5 of our house offices. With the long and drawn-out winter we had this year, students have been grateful for the extra layers well into April.

Thank you so much for supporting my students to keep warm as they walk to and from school, wait for busses, play their sports, and their activities far beyond school. Thank you for making a difference in their lives!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pederson

This classroom project was brought to life by LOFT and 5 other donors.
  • A Sewing Machine for Engineers!

    Funded Nov 9, 2023

Thank you so much for providing my students with the sewing machine! We were excited to use it in a recent project to design potential products with integrated photonics.

Examples of student work where the sewing machine was used include a "back brace" that would help identify when someone was slouching for too long to promote good posture and a headband that would be able to be worn during sports competitions and games that would allow coaches to know if a player received a concussion.

The sewing machine provided students with a unique opportunity to learn a valuable skill while being innovative thinkers, creators, and entrepreneurs. Again, thank you for helping provide my students new ways to create!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pederson

  • Charging Up Chromebooks!

    Funded Apr 18, 2023

Thank you so much for helping provide spare Chromebook chargers for my students! This has been incredibly helpful this school year as we kick off the year with learning Computer Aided Design (CAD). Because of the Chromebook chargers, my students are not missing out on learning opportunities with CAD when their Chromebooks die. These learning opportunities will help set the foundation for the rest of the school year. Thank you for giving my engineering students the chance to start the year off strong!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pederson

  • Help Keep my Students Healthy!

    Funded May 12, 2023

Thank you for helping keep my students healthy as we enter into the cold and flu season! By providing my students with Kleenex tissues, lotion, bandaids, and hand sanitizers you have helped make sure that they can learn in a stress-free environment. So far this school year, I have been able to guarantee a clean classroom, which can help ensure that my students do not miss school because they are sick. Thank you for providing my students with the tools needed to stay healthy and stay in school!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pederson

This classroom project was brought to life by Kleenex® Brand and 2 other donors.
  • Giving Kudos to Awesome Kids!

    Funded Apr 18, 2023

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to write and send kudos cards to my students to recognize their hard work in their engineering class! Being able to recognize their hard work and successes is important to me and I love being able to share the recognition of my students' hard work with their families. Thank you for providing me with the cards, stamps, and fine point Sharpies to be able to continue recognizing and celebrating my students' hard work and dedication in a small, personal way.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pederson

  • Sustainability Farms- Growing an Urban Garden

    Funded Apr 3, 2023

Thank you so much for your support as we continue to grow Sustainability Farms! So far this year, students have started to learn the basics of urban agriculture by learning about plant anatomy, nutrient absorption, and the importance of light wavelengths.

As the students have started to grow plants in seed starters and their hydroponic systems, they have also started developing 21st-century skills, including cooperation, shared responsibility, and depending on each other. The students who work with Sustainability Farms cannot wait to share the food they grow with our community!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pederson

  • Increasing Engagement and Mindfulness in STEM Classes!

    Funded Apr 22, 2022

Thank you for providing my students with fidget toys and mindfulness activities to help them focus in class and with their mental health. The fidget toys have been made available for students to take as they enter my classroom if they feel that they need one and they have also been shared with mentors and social workers within my school. I have also been able to share the book "Therapy Games for Teens" with many other teachers, social workers, and mentors. Being able to share these resources has allowed for more open conversations with students and has also allowed students to feel more comfortable in classes and talking to adults in school. Thank you for providing us with an opportunity to build connections.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pederson

  • Help Keep Us Healthy!

    Funded Feb 17, 2022

Thank you for ensuring that my students have been able to continue to have a safe and healthy learning environment through the end of the school year! Having the tissues, face masks, and hand sanitizer has become an integral part of our classroom environment where students feel comfortable changing out masks and using hand sanitizer not just while they are in my class bur throughout the school day as well. Having these supplies makes the students feel safe and they know that they can come and use them at any time. Again, thank you for your support and helping my students thrive.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pederson

  • Notebooks for STEM!

    Funded Sep 16, 2021

Again, thank you for providing students in our Biology, Engineering, Genetics, and Oceanology classes with notebooks that have become an invaluable support to their learning. Having a notebook has been a wonderful support for the students as their learning is blended through a use of on-line and in-person resources and learning experiences. The students have noticed an increase in their understanding of the content when they are able to annotate, color code, and take notes that are meaningful to them, especially compared to last year being fully remote.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pederson

This classroom project was brought to life by Clorox and one other donor.
  • Whiteboards for STEM Classes!

    Funded Sep 16, 2021

Thank you for helping to provide my students with these whiteboards and markers! They have been making a major difference as our STEM students go through the scientific method and engineering design process as they communicate and collaborate within their teams.

The white boards have not only been beneficial to our STEM classes, but have also been brought into our Learning Center where they have been a useful tool as students transition back to school from quarantining from COVID-19 or who might be having trouble learning in a large classroom. Again, thank you for all of your help!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pederson

The students who take my engineering and robotics classes are apart of a large, urban school and come from many different cultural, ethnic, and economic backgrounds. However, these pieces of their identities do not define them. The students who take my class are creative, curious, and most importantly, my students are thinkers. They come in every day willing to learn and be challenged. They are future engineers and scientists and I want to help provide them with the tools they need to go off and achieve amazing things. Thank you for your support.
