Drumroll Please: Hand Drums for Music Class!
Funded Jun 15, 2016Dear Donors,
I cannot fully express my gratitude of your donations through words. The drums have been such a magical part of our music classroom since the year has begun. It was such a wonderful way to get to know the students and to set the tone of a new music classroom with a new teacher!
I received the drums before open house night, and was lucky enough to share these fun new instruments with parents and families before school had begun. On the first day of school, students were each able to play their own instrument while playing a 'get to know you' game. It was so special to see their excitement on the first day [and every day since!] when I told them we were playing the drum that day!
The drums have been so wonderful for music instruction, because it allows every student in the class to practice on their own instrument. As you can see in the pictures, our school only has a few mallet instruments. For this reason, they have hardly ever been used because students would have to share 4-5 to an instrument. With the help of the drums, students are able to learn mallet technique and rhythm before rotating to a mallet instrument.
In the future, we will use the drums for our upcoming concerts to showcase the students musical talents to families, staff and the community! Our whole school has great pride in our new instruments and we are looking forward to using them for years to come.
Our sincerest thanks- from myself, my students, and the staff at Kapowsin Elementary.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Barene
