  • Art Projects that are Practical Gifts

    Funded Dec 28, 2024

Thank you so much for your generosity! I look forward to Mother’s and Father’s Day gifts that, not only will the students create, but parents will also use! I hope your generous donation will be on family coffee tables for many years! Once again, thank you and I look forward to showing you the beautiful results!!!”

  • Getting Ahead of Headphones

    Funded Oct 30, 2023

Thank you for your generosity! Most of the students that I have the privilege to teach come from low income homes; having a personal computer for them is a big deal. But we cannot use our district provided devices in the classroom without these headphones! Students would not be able to focus on their personal work if they had to listen to all of their classmates' computers!

Also, I have several students who are new to our country and are learning English. By having individual headphones, they are able to engage in programs like Rosetta Stone and iReady Reading in a personalized way. Native English speakers can be enhancing their reading comprehension skills on iReady, while Emergent Bilingual students can be translating Russian to English and learning our basic skills.

Again, thank you for your generosity and the time you took to find my project and donate. What an amazing blessing!”

  • A Calming Corner That Calms Kiddos

    Funded Feb 3, 2023

Thank you so much for your donation to my calming corner project. This grant was very exciting to find and my students have derived a lot of comfort from this area already. I can't wait until next year's students get to use it.

One thing I really like is the durability of the items and that many are washable. Many of these items are also help in academic lessons, and used at the students' desks, not just the calming corner.

I have a student who has autism and they found comfort here when he became over stimulated by noises in the classroom.

    Thank you again!”

    Ms. Yu

  • Fidgeting Our Way Into Learning

    Funded Jan 23, 2023

Thank you so much for helping fund my project "Fidgeting our way into learning". This has helped our class in a variety of ways. There are several students who chew on pencils and erasers. Our newly purchased fidgets helped save erasers and pencils by giving students somewhere else to put their energy. One student has been biting their nails and cuticles in class to the point of bleeding! Keeping their hands busy with fidgets has helped reduce their pain. Kick bands have quieted tappy feet.

After the pandemic, adults and children all changed a bit. For this year's second graders, kindergarten was taken away. This developmental disturbance delayed a whole year of classroom behavior development. Thanks to your generosity these fidgets are making sure that our academics were not delayed too.

    Thank you so much!”

  • Basic Supplies for Enhanced Learning

    Funded Oct 26, 2022

My students and I are so thankful for your generous donation to help us with some classroom basics. Having fully stocked school supplies has lightened the stress on our classroom and brought so much excitement. Several of the items shipped separately, and each time a box arrived, the students were so excited to see what was inside!

Simple consumable items make our classroom run smoother. Students do not have to interrupt learning to get a sharp pencil or eraser. We can make charts and posters to reference as we learn new topics. We have dry erase markers and dry erase pockets so we can practice our handwriting and math drills. Our learning is so enhanced due to your donation!

Our creativity is flourishing also. We've been able to do art projects with our paper plates, both using them as pallets to hold our paints, and as the base for our projects. With our paper plates we've made fall wreaths and will soon make Christmas trees. Thanks to your generosity, we also have colored pencils and colored paper that give us endless craft possibilities. I can't wait to see what art and stem projects we do with our aluminum foil!

Again, thank you so much for your generosity!”

  • Relaxing and Learning on a Cool Colored Rug

    Funded Sep 7, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. Everyone who enters our classroom immediately notices how different the environment is now that our rug is a calming green, rather than a playful red/yellow print! I did not know it at the time, but this new classroom rug is 1 foot longer and 1 foot wider than our previous rug. All 23 students now fit sitting in a circle, an unplanned, extra benefit!

To say the students were excited when they first saw the rug is an understatement. They immediately wanted to lay or sit on the rug to read silently, to learn new lessons and to have group meetings. We've had our morning meetings on the rug and this has allowed us time to get to know each other better. Students also beg for a chance to lay on the rug during silent reading! One favorite activity that the students still talk about is when we formed 4 small groups on the rug. I dumped a few HUNDRED popsicle sticks in front of each group and asked them to count! We made bundles of 10, then bundles of 100. Now we use these bundles daily as we learn place value and regrouping (what we used to call "borrowing").

We look forward to many more books read, stories told, project completed and memories made on our new rug. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Yu
