  • We Need Today's Technology!

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

Thank you so much for your donation to our classroom! Our older Chromebooks would no longer update and we needed new ones to access the resources to support students' learning. Now my students can use the computers to do writing and reading independently. They can utilize the apps such as voice typing to look up spelling and word meanings, type longer essays, and become more independent and confident. Some have become a whiz at using the Read ALoud extension in Chrome to help them read text online that formerly they could not without a teacher to read it aloud to them. They also can access the learning websites that help them to read and comprehend better.

    Thanks again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Timmons

  • Chromebooks for Our Future

    Funded Nov 8, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom. My students are thoroughly enjoying having NEW technology that gives them access to all of the latest learning apps my school has made available. Most of my students do not have internet access at home, outside of their parents' phones, and do not get to use technology for learning outside of school. These computers give them the edge they need to compete in this technological age and show them what more they can do with it besides play video games. They will use them to improve their reading skills by reading books available to them online and websites designed to help them improve. They will publish their writing and be able to spell and edit using the tools available in Google Docs. They will be able to research topics of interest and in assignments without having to wait for a computer for as long, now that we have two more. I hope to soon have enough for one per student!

My school district has given each student a google-linked account, so these Chromebooks are perfect for them to use in school. One of my first students who benefitted from my first Chromebook grant recently contacted me via his district google email. He first learned how to use email on a Chromebook 5 years ago that I obtained from donors like you. Your generosity will give my students now this same advantage. Thank you again. Please consider donating to future projects of mine, if you can.”

  • Help Au-some Kids with Autism Be Tech STARS!

    Funded Dec 20, 2016

I am so grateful for you generous donations to my classroom. My students are now able to be more independent and take control of their learning. My students all have autism and struggle with reading and writing. Now, because of you generosity, we have enough computers for each student to have access to their own to use. This makes learning and writing accessible to them because with today's technology, they can ask Google and find their own answers. They can use the speech-to-text tool to assist them with spelling and writing compositions. They can use the Chromebooks to practice reading and comprehension. They no longer have to share them with a partner to do their favorite activity, computer coding. Most of all, they do not have to ask the adults questions they want answered: they can research it themselves.

The primary reason I wanted these computers was so that my students could be more independent learners and see how much they can do on their own with today's technology. One of my students is a sixth grader and couldn't even write a sentence without spelling errors. This week, he wrote an entire personal narrative on his own about a field trip we took, even including details about the Greek myth of Perseus defeating Medusa, using the speech-to-text tool available on Googledocs! The students also now use the Chromebooks to ask Google to see images of vocabulary they are not familiar with. These tools will help them to better understand texts and accomplish tasks. I hope to excite the students and their families so they will want to have similar technology to use at home and in their future schooling in middle school, instead of spending their limited funds on video games and amusement parks! I believe access to technology will make a huge impact on the lives of my students with autism. Thank you again for providing this opportunity for them.”

  • Access for All!

    Funded Feb 22, 2013

Thank you for your generous donation. We are so happy to have these new computers to use in our classroom. Although we are still learning how to use them and having some connectivity issues, we are excited to be able to use them to research information and practice our skills in the classroom. With the addition of these computers, more students will be able to use various websites at the same time.

Students will be able to use the computers to answer their own questions. Students will be able to practice spelling and writing on the keyboards. They also can access reading practice websites to improve their reading skills. The Chromebooks are lightweight and quick to start up. They have their own word processing software that is convertible to more commercial types of programs, so documents are easily read on other devices.

My students have been using the computers to do all of these things. Thanks to your generous donation, more students have access to technology in my underfunded school. Thank you.”

  • Help Disabled Kids be Independent with LeapFrog Tag Readers

    Funded Jan 27, 2012

Thank you so much for your many generous donations to my project! I am so excited to get this fun technology and library of readable books to my not-yet-fully -literate students. They have struggled for years and still aren't able to pick up a book and enjoy it. So I am so excited to offer this to them to use in class.

A special thank you to Leapfrog for offering half of the funding for this project and to the Wasserman Foundation for providing gift cards to parents of students at my school to give them the opportunity to donate to the school. My project could not have been funded so quickly without your help.”

  • Increase Vocabulary for Kids with Autism

    Funded Feb 1, 2012

Thank you so much for all of your generous donations to my classroom. Due to devastating budget cuts, our classrooms lack up-to-date reference materials and technology. With your support, I was able to purchase several new dictionaries, a couple of different Thesauruses, a few atlases, two i-Pods, as well as an Almanac (often referenced in the state testing) and a number of books from the Goosebumps book series. The children will have a better understanding of what these reference books are for with modern ones to look at. They also are more motivated to read when they have a popular book series to read during extra class time,

Thanks again for your donations. It really makes a difference in the lives of today's students.”

  • Help Kids with Autism Speak!

    Funded Jan 6, 2012

Thank you so much for all of your generous donations to my students. These materials have enabled me to reinforce and check my students learning by making lessons and reviews a fun game that they enjoy. Instead of just reading a story or sentences and answering questions, they are playing a fun board game where they get to jump into a volcano when they win. They don't even realize I am actually assessing their grammar and language knowledge at the same time.

I used to have two teams of students, with one pair of students at a time competing to practice spelling words. Now the whole class gets a red or blue white board and can ALL practice the spelling words and earn points for their team. The love the boards and ask to use them all the time. They have already worn out the box they came in from overuse!

Thanks again for supporting my class in these hard economic times when so much is being cut from our resources. I am happy to be able to enrich the students' learning with all of your help. A special thank you to all the corporations who are also being so generous to match funding for our public school projects. We couldn't have been fully funded so quickly without you donation.”

  • Teaching Kids With Autism

    Funded Dec 7, 2009

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom. The materials you provided have helped my students to engage in the classroom activities. They use the little pointers to read the room and practice counting. The young ones who have difficulty sitting up during circle time use the cube chairs and can now stay seated for longer. They also helps them to stay focused on independent activities by using one flipped over chair as a table in front of the other chair (as shown in the photo). The spring-loaded scissors and finger crayons help the little ones develop the motor skills they need to do everyday tasks in school. But most of all they love the Caterpillar tunnel. The are learning how to take turns and interact by waiting to go through the tunnel. It also helps stimulate their senses and body awareness.

With the budget issues our schools are having this year, I could not have provided my students with adequate materials without your help. Thank you again so much.”

    With gratitude,

  • Rewarding and Developing Independent Reading Habits

    Funded Sep 14, 2007

Thank you so much for your generous donation of books for my students. Most of my students have no books at home except for the ones I give them. I want to encourage them to read more and do so by giving them free books as an incentive for completing a monthly reading log.

I usually fill my "book box" with books from the 99cent Store or old, discarded books from the school. Your generous donation will give the children access to shiny, new, quality books that they will take pride in owning. The children will have their own personal library of literature and hopefully motivate them to read more at home.

Thank you again for your generous donation. You are making a difference in the lives of many children this year by bringing them the gift of reading and having their own new books.

    Sincerely,

    Jennifer T
