Little Learners Documenting Success with a Document Camera
Funded May 5, 2019Thank you so much for your donations. My students love the document camera. It has become the most popular center for the children. We use it for everything, from art to language arts, to math. The children are excited to use it an show off their work. I have noticed that the children who are most timid or are not confident in their art skills, want to draw and create under the document camera. I have used it as a way to have the children "on TV." The children have acted out stories I have read on the document camera. This is an important skill for little ones. It shows that they have understanding of the story that was read to them. When I have done interactive story retells in the past, the children would get shy and be unwilling to participate. Now, everyone wants a turn in front of the document camera. Thank you so much for your donations. It means the world to me and my students.”

Funded Nov 15, 2018Thank you for your donation to our project. The grocery store and the washer and dryer are great additions to our dramatic play center. The students love using the equipment during their center time. The new dramatic play center has encouraged the children to talk to each other, problem solve, and use their imagination. They are learning to count and add with the play money. They love pretending to make purchases or be the store clerk. They pretend to do the laundry. They are learning to take turns and patience when they are in grocery store. They take turns being the grocer and the customer. It is amazing to see the growth of their oral language skills and their vocabulary as they use their imaginations in the new dramatic play center. The newest additions have been invaluable! Thank you so much!
Thank you,
Ms. Tilghman”

Funded Jan 17, 2017Thank you so much for your donations. We received the Osmo Genius Kit and the IPad. the kids were so excited to use it. What is so wonderful about the Osmo Genius Kit is it merges technology and hand-on-learning. The children benefiting from being exposed to the use of technology bu are still getting the tactile learning that children of my students' age needs. The kit also address many different subject area. In one app, the children use letter tiles to figure out what sound is missing from a word. In another app, the children use number and dotted tiles to create different amounts requested. This is the start to addition. The children also use an app to help with their fine motor skills. With this particular app, it uses the camera on the IPad to record what the children are doing with the pencil. I was able to show the recordings to the parents and discuss the type of pencil grip the children have, the pressure the children are using when writing and give advice on what the parents could do at home to help with their fine motor skills.
The children love using the different apps and the tools of the Osmo Kit. My assistant and I pull children out on a one-to-one basis. We monitor and assist when needed. My assistant works with the apps that address the sounds and counting. My assistant began with pulling out the kids that are our English language learners and the kids that were having trouble with remembering the sounds letter make. Since using the kits, I have seen an increase in knowledge of letter sounds. I have pulled students aside to work with the apps that address fine motor skills and the tan-grams. The children are so focused on trying to recreate the pictures on the screen, with both apps.
When we first got the kit and IPad, the children were so excited. They are always asking if it is their turn to "play" with it. Because they know they will get a turn on it, the children do not fight over it. When I work with the kids during their lab exploration time, the children will gather around to watch someone using the IPad. Sometimes, the children will try to help their friend if they are in need. Its wonderful to see. The are not only helping with learning their own skills, they are gaining information from their peers. This is important because children learn from one another.
Again, thank you so much for helping me bring these essential tools in to my classroom. The kids will benefit from this for years to come.”

Do You Hear What I Hear? A Kindergarten Listen Station!
Funded Aug 11, 2010Words cannot express the gratitude I feel for you donation for the Listen and Learn Kits. We used the Listen and Learn Phonics Kit during the first half of the year which helped my students understand all of the sounds of the alphabet. We are now using the Phonemic Awareness Kit. It is helping my students understand rhymes, words families, differentiating sounds and blending sounds. These skills will help them become great readers and writers.
I understand that the economic climate is very difficult. Schools are hurting for money these days. Many things that we need in our class must be budgeted out because we lack the funds, yet we are expected to increase test scores. Your donation brought these valuable kits to my class. My class has done incredibly well on all of their assessments. I feel that the kits had a lot to do with it.
Again, thank you so much for your donation.”
