  • Diagnosing Diseases

    Funded Feb 7, 2020

Thank you so much for funding our classroom project. Because of your generous donations, each student in the class will now be able to conduct in-depth scientific research on antibodies, isopods and microorganisms. Now that students have access to the materials they need they will be able to experience the thrill of using the scientific method to answer their questions about the world. I greatly appreciate your timely support and look forward to sending pictures of our research experiences.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parks

  • Pillbug Choices!

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

Thank you so much for funding the Animal Behavior class. The choice chambers will bring many classes of students much joy and inspiration for years to come. In addition, many students choose to use this project in their graduation portfolio, so your donation will directly help them move one big step closer to college and career.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parks

  • Learning About the Visual System with Brains and Eyeballs

    Funded Dec 31, 2018

Thank you so much for funding our classroom learning experiences! The students who have done these activities before learned so much and were inspired to develop long-term projects. I'm looking forward to being able to provide these opportunities to my next round of classes, and greatly appreciate your support!”

  • Rewards for Great Attendance!

    Funded Dec 6, 2017

Thank you so much for funding our attendance incentive project. This will impact the students in the school by giving them rewards for their excellent attendance and setting a good examples for others to be persistent. This is a pilot but it has been spreading throughout the school and I'm very excited it's working!!”

    With gratitude,

  • A Tortoise Enclosure for Our Mascot

    Funded Feb 18, 2015

Thank you so much for funding our Tortoise Enclosure! The students will be so relieved that Flippy, our Hermann's Tortoise, finally has an appropriate place to live in the classroom. As soon as we get her all set up, we will be sending pictures along.

It's crucial for our students, some who have had traumatic experiences, to have access to live animals in the classroom. Flippy has become somewhat of a therapy tortoise. She is friendly, loves people and always wants to be held. She also doesn't cause any allergies (as of yet) and is very hardy. She will most likely outlive me!

We really do appreciate your donation, as you will see when you receive the thank you cards and pictures. Not only the students will be happy, but our classroom mascot, who works hard entertaining and educating the students will be well taken care of.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parks

Our students have all transferred from other schools. They are wonderful, bright people who are focused on graduating and completing internships to get real experience in careers throughout New York City. Our students are highly motivated, and face challenges of overcoming their previous experiences with more traditional educational settings. We provide many opportunities for our students to think independently and explore what they are truly interested in while building real experience towards their future careers. Internships at our school allow students to design portfolio projects following the consortium rubric and many of our classes are designed for our students to design their own, unique project to present for their graduation portfolio.
