In the pursuit of updating my Honors Sophomore Curriculum, I realized the need for more diverse literature to be added to our library. I fully believe in the power of students seeing themselves in the literature they consume, as well as the importance of broadening their horizons past the community they live in. Set in Afghanistan, "A Thousand Splendid Suns", by Khalid Hosseini will allow many of my students an opportunity to see themselves in a character and expose many other students a world they have never seen. This book will expose them to Hosseini's rich storytelling and give them an opportunity to analyze and discuss many universal themes present in all cultures. This novel will challenge my students and engage them in the globalized world we live in.
