  • Examining the Impact of Different Materials in Pricing Goods

    Funded Nov 11, 2024

Thank you so much for your support and kindness!

IT really means the world to me and my students to know that people who are not in our classroom are INTERESTED in what we do. I teach economics and students are getting firsthand experience in seeing how small businesses work because they are running a small business. Experiential learning is the best type of learning. Students are able to negotiate and set competitive prices and successfully market their goods.

We are getting ready to launch this project after winter break and we're excited to see and show you what we create. As a teacher it isn't always common to have all the resources we need. It can be very burdensome to wake up in the middle of the night stressed because you forgot to get a crucial item for a project you are teaching the next day. I've done this many times and it is the worst feeling. Thank you for helping me to have peace mind. I hope your generosity is returned to you in more ways than you can imagine.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Stephanie

  • How To Successfully Run a Candle Making Business?

    Funded Dec 3, 2024

Thank you so much for helping me get this project funded. I am excited for this project to take off in the Spring. I know the students will learn, explore, and delve into economics in a meaningful way and it's because of you.

Thank you again for your time and your generosity.”

  • Multilingual Learner Classroom Library

    Funded Dec 13, 2019

Thank you for your support. It's not everyday that students get to walk into a classroom that is furnished with books that reflect the myriad of identities and cultures they possess. All classrooms should have libraries in which students have easy access to read in school and/or at home. So far, I've had one student who is Muslim say to me "Ms. I like this library because there are books about Muslim girls being Muslim girls and they are not only focused on pain, but also joy." Thank you so much for making all of this possible.”

  • What is the American Dream?

    Funded Oct 5, 2016

I am writing you this letter to thank you for your kind and generous gift. Throughout this school year I have discovered that my students love comics and because of your gift they are becoming avid readers. So far we have read snippets from comics like Persepolis and Maus and they have been eager to read additional chapters of those books. When I told them that I received a class set of March thanks to your donations, they were elated. We will start the unit soon and I know that it will be life changing. I plan to continue to introduce them to the important elements of comics such as identifying and explaining the voice of the important characters, retelling events in sequence, and character mapping just to name a few. More importantly, I will use March to focus on the specifics of life in America for blacks post-emancipation to present day. As a class, we touched upon issues of discrimination in previous units and my students were able to relate and share their experiences as immigrants (New New Yorkers as I like to call them) in this country. It is my goal to create a classroom in which students are learning, explaining, and empathizing. Thank you for helping me to accomplish this.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Stephanie

In my 9th grade Government class my students will be exploring what the American Dream means for immigrants and citizens. They will make connections between themselves and notable immigrants like Alexander Hamilton. Furthermore, they will explore what the American Dream meant and still means for African Americans. It is my hope that they will draw connections between the two groups. The graphic novel March by John Lewis captures both the essence of the Civil Rights movement and also depicts beautifully the plight of African Americans in their pursuit of equality and freedom which are foundational elements of the American Dream.
