Funded Oct 5, 2016I am writing you this letter to thank you for your kind and generous gift. Throughout this school year I have discovered that my students love comics and because of your gift they are becoming avid readers. So far we have read snippets from comics like Persepolis and Maus and they have been eager to read additional chapters of those books. When I told them that I received a class set of March thanks to your donations, they were elated. We will start the unit soon and I know that it will be life changing. I plan to continue to introduce them to the important elements of comics such as identifying and explaining the voice of the important characters, retelling events in sequence, and character mapping just to name a few. More importantly, I will use March to focus on the specifics of life in America for blacks post-emancipation to present day. As a class, we touched upon issues of discrimination in previous units and my students were able to relate and share their experiences as immigrants (New New Yorkers as I like to call them) in this country. It is my goal to create a classroom in which students are learning, explaining, and empathizing. Thank you for helping me to accomplish this.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Stephanie
