Coming back to school during the summer month of August usually means the weather is still extremely hot in California. With high temperatures outside, our classroom is even hotter inside. My students are inside the building for 6 hours a day with no air conditioning and one water fountain, resulting in instructional minutes being lost for having to constantly get water throughout the day.
By my students having a personal 10 oz water bottle, they can have access to water throughout the day and be able to spend more time engaged in academic learning without the distraction of needing to get out their seats for water. The one gallon jug would make it easy for me to refill my students’ bottles and increase their water intake. I am requesting an extra set of water bottles in order to alternate and take them home for washing at the end of each week. I am also requesting standing fans in order to place around the classroom to circulate air in order to keep the students cool.
At the end of the school year, students will be given their water bottles to take home and encouraged to continue to drink healthy water and the fans will be reused for the following year.
