Funded Dec 31, 2024I want to thank you and let you know how much my students and I appreciate all your generous donations that fulfilled my Donors Choose project. When the students had Fun Friday time and were able to use the new watercolor pallets and watercolor paper their eyes lit up! They were very excited to put their imaginations on paper. And having the variety of colors allowed them to bring their paintings to life!
I also try and provide a snack for them in between breakfast and lunch time. These snacks allow them to keep their bellies full so they can keep focused on learning.
Thank you again!”

Ms. Michaelchuck
Choice Time!
Funded Aug 26, 2024Teaching first grade there are many things we learn besides the "academics" of reading, writing and math. Learning how to be a good friend, get along with others, share and taking turns. Have a variety of supplies for choice times during the week allows my students to practice taking turns, sharing and getting along, as well as patience!
When the class saw all the games that came from your donations they were so excited! They could not wait to play them all! It is an honor to be able to teach and I thank you all for your support!”

Snacks to Increase Learning!
Funded Aug 21, 2024Your donations to my project do not go unnoticed! As a teacher in the inner city there are many challenges that befall our school community. Many kids come to school hungry or without enough food. Having healthy snacks for my students has helped them to stay focused on learning. When their simple needs are met they can focus on their education.
Students look forward to snack time. We take 10 minutes a day in the morning for snack, and them we are right back to a full day of learning. Thank you again for your generous donations!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Herb Kohl Philanthropies.Let’s Read!
Funded Aug 15, 2024All of the wonderful reading resources that were donated to room 128 have had a huge impact on our classroom. My students are at a variety of reading levels, from pre-primer to 2nd grade. The variety of games and leveled books has allowed my students to work at their level. Each reading group is making gains towards their goal for the year.
I also have been able to send some of the books home with students to work on with their family members. This allows family members to be involved in their child's education and to see their child's progress.
You have helped to make an impact in room 128 and I am forever grateful!”

This classroom project was brought to life by The Gates Foundation and 7 other donors.Alternative Seating!
Funded Feb 25, 2024Many students have a hard time sitting in a desk chair all day. This project has allowed my students some alternative seating! The rocker chairs have been great for free reading time. During group work the chairs as well as square cushions give groups a place to sit that is not their usual desk and chair.
When I unpacked the alternative seating they could not wait to try them out! The excitement on their faces was priceless!
The chair cushions have been very impactful for some students with sensory needs. And the chair bands have given my students that are "wiggly" a way to expel that energy without disrupting the rest of the class.”

Supplies! Supplies! Supplies!
Funded Feb 15, 2024This project has been very impactful for my students. We all have different skin tones, eye color etc... The traditional marker sets do not provide a range of colors for all. These skin colored markers, colored pencils have giving my students the ability to draw real life portraits.
As a class we published a book of poems about us. Each student wrote a poem and was able to draw a portrait of themselves using the skin color marker that matched them best. The book was so much fun to make and we were able to learn about each other.”

Milwaukee Students Breathe For Change!
Funded Mar 1, 2018Thank you for donating to my Breathe for Change training project. This training was life changing. This educator specific yoga and wellness training provided me with tools for my own well being and mindfulness but provided me with an entire Social Emotional Learning curriculum to bring back to my school. I am now a certified yoga teacher and mindfulness/wellness champion and am able to teach yoga to my class, staff, and community. I also am able to train my school's staff in SEL strategies and activities they can use in their classroom.
Every weekend of my training I was able to dig into another aspect of myself and how this affects my teaching, parenting, and life in general. I learned a lot about myself and believe I can be a better teacher because of what I have learned about myself.
My students now mediate daily before we begin our day. This allows us to calm our bodies and our minds and get ready for the day.”

Document Camera and Projector for K5
Funded Sep 29, 2015Thank you so very much for your donation that allowed my classroom to purchase a document reader and a projector. This technology is found as a staple in most suburban schools. My particular school did not have more than 5 projectors for all 16 classrooms to use. A projector and document reader allows me to demonstrate many things to the students so they all can see it and follow along. I am able to show students work easier and more efficiently. I am also able to use it to read books and show pictures to the entire class.
My students particularly love that we are able to utilize many educational websites and brain break sites such as Go Noodle. This site gives my students a chance to get up and move when they need a break! Many of the videos are also teaching them something!
Again I want to thank you for generous donation that has helped me improve the way I am teaching my students.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Michaelchuck
