Chemistry Classroom Copier
Funded Aug 27, 2022The students at MAST@FIU, Biscayne Bay are goal-oriented, and driven to succeed in every aspect of their academic career. They take great pride in presenting their ideas in a way that will illustrate the position we hold here at MAST, and their own viewpoints. Although the Advanced Placement Chemistry program was pulled due to low enrollment, I use the printer consistently to prepare assessments, and provide feedback to my Honors Chemistry cohort. Due to the accessibility of information on the internet, employing paper-based assessments gives valuable insight into student learning gains.
Our students have been using the Pantum Laser Printer to produce copies of their projects for various classes, whether it is classwork or project-based. I have had requests from faculty members who need to print quickly, and are unable to go to the production room.
The Pantum M7102W Laser Printer Scanner Copier 3 in 1, Wireless Connectivity and Auto Two-Sided Printing with one pack TL-410x 6000 Pages Yield Toner Cartridge has been used to fulfil the needs of my Chemistry students, and other faculty and students at MAST@FIU, Biscayne Bay. This donation has made a genuine difference in my
classroom practice. I sincerely appreciate all donors, and the donations made to this project.”
With gratitude,

Funded Apr 7, 2022The MAST@FIU Biscayne Bay Water Quality Check-Up: Student-Led Research project was designed to get students involved in the conversation about pollution of the waterways surrounding our school, and the detrimental effects on the ecosystems. MAST (The Marine Academy of Science and Technology) is a green school, with every aspect of our curriculum tailored towards environmental sustainability. We continually seek ways to protect our environment, with multiple cleanups carried out every year.
Students enjoyed exploring the shores of Biscayne Bay, the mangroves in Oleta River State Park, and the man made wetland on our school's grounds. We frequently encountered sting rays, blow fish, baby barracudas, and a variety of frogs and other aquatic life.
When students started the testing process using the Industrial Test Systems Exact iDip 570 Marine Aquarium, Coral, & Aquaculture Water Starter Test Kit™, there were many discussions about the levels of nitrates and phosphates detected in each sample, and why the values may have varied from one group to the next.
During the results compilation phase, students were exposed to methods of analyzing the data, and how this data is used to make assumptions, and draw conclusions.
The MAST@FIU 2021-2022 Chemistry I Honors cohort is extremely grateful to the Donors Choose Team, and to all our donors, for funding our project. We have enjoyed the ease of use of the device, and students were amazed that the iDip also had Bluetooth connectivity. This device served the 2021-2022 cohort, but will serve many future Chemistry cohorts at MAST@FIU, as we continue to investigate, and seek remediation for the waterways surrounding our campus.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Spencer
