This classroom project was brought to life by .Kick Start '24! Supplies and Auxiliary Items for Seamless Learning!
Funded Jul 13, 2024Thank you for your generous contribution to our Honors Chemistry class at MAST@FIU. Your support has allowed us to enhance our hands-on learning experience in incredible ways. This year, students are using wooden blocks to build a large, classroom periodic table, a project that will be displayed throughout the school year. Additionally, supplies like pens and correction tape are essential for providing feedback on student assignments and helping students revise their work, fostering an environment of continuous learning. The ruled Post-It sticky note pads have been a hit with students, helping them stay organized and engaged during group work.
The nitrile gloves you provided in various sizes are vital for ensuring safety during our lab experiments. We also recently received a new class set of calculators, and the calculator organizer will help us keep these tools accessible and ready for daily use. The label maker has been especially useful in organizing our classroom materials, including calculators, periodic tables, and safety guides, keeping everything in order and easy to access. These resources have not only increased student participation but also created a more organized and efficient learning environment.
Thank you again for making such a difference in our classroom. Your support has enriched the students' learning experiences and will continue to have a lasting impact throughout the school year.”

Funded Oct 13, 2023In South Florida, school safety has moved to the forefront of school culture since the 2018 Valentines Day tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas Senior High School, just north of us in Parkland, Florida. All schools are mandated to perform routine emergency drills to ensure that students know exactly what they should do in an emergency.
The students in the 2023-2024 Chemistry cohort at MAST@FIU, Biscayne Bay are extremely grateful for your donations of rugs for us to sit on during lockdown drills. The concrete tiles in the Chemistry lab are cold, and we are usually sitting on the floor for up to ten minutes and is very uncomfortable. The rugs have greatly alleviated the discomfort of the cold floors. Students are comfortable and there are no complaints when the drills are extended.
Students have also been using the “cozy corner” as a space to unwind after a quiz or between assignments.
This donation has made a genuine difference in my classroom practice. I sincerely appreciate all donors, and the donations made to this project”

"Sandless" Sandbag for STEM Research
Funded Oct 30, 2023The students at MAST@FIU, Biscayne Bay are extremely grateful for your donations toward our 2023-2024 STEM Project. We requested materials to design a prototype "sandless" sandbag on a small scale, and our cohort results were amazing. We scored full points during the District assessment!
Students used The Mifoci 26 oz. Portable Cereal Cup to create a rain gauge to duplicate a specific rainfall event. The Swedish dishcloths replaced the sand in the mini burlap bags.
Students pierced holes in the collar of the cereal cup and performed several trials until the rate of "drip" matched the specific rainfall event chosen by the group. The mini burlap bag containing the Swedish Dishcloth was then placed in the lower section of the cereal cup. The upper section of the cereal cup was filled with water which was allowed to drip onto the "sandbag" until saturation was achieved.
This donation provided a challenge to our young students as their engineering skills were put to the test. I sincerely appreciate all donors, and the donations made to this project.”

Funded Oct 13, 2023The faculty at MAST@FIU is committed to providing our students with all the resources they need to have a successful, healthy, and safe academic career.
As we have seen from the recent pandemic, clean, sanitized surfaces are vital for the general health and well-being of everyone. At the end of each of my classes, students use the microfiber dusters to remove small particles from their workspace, prior to using antibacterial wipes to wipe the surfaces. It is mandatory that all workstations are sanitized in preparation for the next class. We also use these wipes to clean high-touch areas such as door handles and chair backs and seats.
Based on the frequency of students contracting viruses, especially during the flu season, your donation of Kleenex™ tissues has been a life saver for many students. The small boxes are handy because a student frequently requires the use of an entire box for the duration of the school day. Students often come to see me to get a box if their teacher does not have tissues. Having a personal box also prevents students from leaving their workstations multiple times to walk to the trash receptacle.
The light-weight vacuum cleaner has been invaluable. Our Honors Chemistry class participates in projects and performs lab activities that cause some waste to be deposited onto the floor. The vacuum cleaner provides a quick way for students to clean up their work area while reducing the generation of dust particles in the air.
Your generous donation of these supplies has improved the sanitation management of our classroom and has been instrumental in minimizing the transmission of viruses and bacteria.”

Ms. Spencer
Straight "A"s - We Understood The Assignment!
Funded Oct 13, 2023We are extremely grateful for your donation of consumables towards the effective functioning of our classroom at MAST@FIU this academic year.
Your donation of copy paper and toner refills have helped many students with projects and presentations, and have helped many teachers to prepare assignments, especially if there is a time constraint. Teachers are able to print from their rooms, and students routinely print from their phones, due to the printer's Wi-Fi capability.
The Expo™ markers are invaluable for instruction, even in this age of digital learning. Students often work on the white boards in peer groups, and delight in taking on the role of "teacher" when they have a unique of explaining a concept.
The new iPad charger provides a faster charging time resulting in zero downtime for charging the classroom iPad between classes.
Even with an increase in digital learning, many courses are still more effective when students hand write their responses. The heavy Math-base of Honors Chemistry is best met when students think and write, re-think and re-write. My class has daily practice quizzes which are graded with the pens donated, to provided immediate feedback to the students and their parents.
These donations have made a genuine difference in my classroom practice. I sincerely appreciate all donors, and the donations made to this project.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Spencer
Fun With Multi-Modal Learning!
Funded Nov 29, 2022Thank you for your generous contribution to making our classroom instruction and learning efficient, and safe for all students at MAST@FIU!
The high Math content in Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) Chemistry requires constant practice, and students utilize the multicolored markers to highlight various aspects of their work that are important.
The Microsoft™ Surface™ Pen allows me to create answer keys that are projected onto the Promethean Activ Panel, where students have the opportunity to peer grade, or review the answer keys to see where they went wrong.
Our Chemistry I Honors cohort created a floating 3D periodic table of elements from the multicolored connecting blocks. The periodic table displays the elements on one side, and fun facts about each element on the reverse side.
At the end of each class period, all tables are sanitized using the Lysol™ antibacterial wipes. This creates a clean, sanitized environment for the next class period.
These supplies have made a difference in my classroom environment. We sincerely appreciate all donors, and the donations made to benefit our students.”
