  • Loving Our Library!

    Funded Dec 29, 2017

Thank you so much for your support of my students as readers. We can't wait to dive into the new stories and genres that will be available to us! I am especially excited that our students will have access to graphic novels in addition to the more conventional story telling forms. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Soloff

  • Classroom Library to Create a Buzz for Books!

    Funded Jan 10, 2017

I can not thank you enough for your contribution to my students' learning. I told them that there were people in the world who helped make their library possible and cared about their enjoyment of reading. The faces around the circle lit up with smiles. It was clear, they felt invested in. One student exclaimed, "We owe you [the donors] a big thank you."

Additionally, our collection of books was big enough that children could circulate popular books with ease and suggest favorites to one another. Some reluctant readers found absolute favorites within the collections which encouraged them to read increasingly challenging books.

Thank you for making reading a time that children looked forward to!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Soloff

My mission as a Boston Public School teacher is to ensure that all my students leave first grade loving to read and reading on grade level or above. You can help make that happen. By donating to our classroom library, you will provide 22 developing readers with high quality literature that engages their imagination and is accessible to their reading level. For instance, when students discovered the Piggie and Elephant series by Mo Willems (which I had borrowed from my local library), they were enchanted. Many began to stretch themselves to decode new words. Children who were more advanced readers reached out to newer readers to help them tackle new words and vice versa. The books on this list include authors who are familiar to the children or are highly regarded as literature for this age group. Contributing to a collection of series (like Amelia Bedelia, Mo Willems, etc.) promotes children's ability to get to know characters deeply and creates common reference points in my learning community. My students are excited to swap books and talk about beloved characters. Your contribution to our classroom library will help to engage our struggling readers, provide students with contemporary engaging children's literature and motivate them to develop their skills further. In short, to create a buzz for books!
