  • Classroom Library Needed

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

We cannot thank you enough for the generosity you have shown our class. The students are so happy to have a library full of books to choose from. Some of the books from our new library have been used for social emotional learning. These books have been a great way for the students to read about feelings and how to express those feelings. The students also use these books during their independent reading time. They have been able to work on sequencing and reading comprehension because they have books available to them on their level.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sininsky

  • Wanted: A Classroom Printer!

    Funded Sep 28, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donation. The students were so excited to receive a new Brother printer for the classroom. Already, this new piece of technology is having a significant impact on our classroom. For instance, struggling students are now being provided with additional resources because of this new printer. Students are currently receiving graphic organizers in writing, place value charts in math, and reteach worksheets in social studies. All these crucial resources are now just a click away. Our lessons and instruction can now be modified as the day unfolds.

Currently and in the future, students will have the ability to instantly print their projects and other work. The days of having a broken printer at home or running out of ink are over. Most recently, the students printed images and text for their Inuit posters, which they proudly displayed around the classroom.

All the students can definitely agree that this new printer has been a tremendous blessing and look forward to using it the rest of the school year.”

  • Magazines Here! We Need Scholastic News Magazines Here!

    Funded Sep 8, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donation. The students were so excited to receive a class subscription of Scholastic News. These newspapers have literally exposed them to a completely new world. Our students now have the ability to be knowledgeable about real-world issues affecting the entire country and world. We are slowly turning our students into global citizens.

The students have found the current event articles both interesting and entertaining. The colorful images and graphics have quickly captured their attention. Some of the stories they easily relate to, while others spark their imagination. One of their favorite features includes the videos that accompany the cover story. In addition, the students are always eager to read the "Debate of the Week". The students always like to share their viewpoints and opinions about the controversial issues featured in this section.

All the students can definitely agree that Scholastic News has been a tremendous blessing and look forward to using it the rest of the school year. Our visual learners, especially appreciate all the multimedia features that accompany the newspaper.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sininsky

Scholastic News is a great nonfiction/current events magazine made to interest fifth graders. Providing this resource to my students allows them to receive real world news in a high interest and age appropriate way. This resource supports the New York state standards across all of the content areas as well as inspire students to find interest in current events. One of the 2017 issues of Scholastic News featured the articles, "Don't Be Fooled by Fake News!", "The Future of Flight" and "Should Schools Ban Dyed Hair?" (this issues debate), along with many others. Each week students are able to participate in a debate based on the information provided in the magazine. Students pull out facts and think about the "pro" and "con" for each topic and work with their peers to plan their debate.
