  • Happy and Healthy Music Class

    Funded Oct 15, 2024

Thank you so much for your donations to my happy and healthy music classroom project! We have received all the materials and they are making a huge difference. There has been a LOT of sickness going around my school. The whole country has been dealing with the combined problems of the flu, Covid, RSV, and norovirus all at once. Our school has had days where approximately half of every class is absent with some kind of virus or bug. The fact that thus far I have not contracted them means that the cleaning supplies are working! For selfish reasons I am very grateful but this also means that students are not spreading germs to each other or from class to class with the toys I use. For some perspective I teach approximately 200 children a day so in one day I could be quite a super spreader if I were not carefully cleaning between every class. I am extremely grateful to you for your generosity in helping us get these cleaning supplies. My students and I thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Silva-Bowe

  • Translator for Multilingual Kindergartners

    Funded Aug 12, 2024

Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. Thanks to your support my students and I had a smooth start to the school year and were able to communicate freely in multiple languages. The translator you help provide for my school was particularly helpful for my Portuguese students. I had several students who exclusively spoke Portuguese and started later in the school year then other students.

Using the translate these students were able to tell the class things about themselves like there favorite color and if they had any siblings. They were also able to ask and answer questions from their new friends. We used the translator to help them find other students in their class who like the same shows and toys as they did which help foster friendships. I am so grateful to you for your generous support of my students!”

  • Broken Hose Emergency!!

    Funded Jul 26, 2024

I am writing to update you on the wonderful impact of your donation to my school's new garden hose! Our old hose broke at the absolute worst time possible. It was mid-summer in a moderate drought and we desperately needed your help to keep our lovely school garden going. Once again the donorschoose community came through to save the day! Thanks to your generosity we received a wonderful new metal hose and a housing unit to keep it safely rolled out of the sun. the new hose allowed us to keep the garden alive and thriving for students who started a few short weeks ago. Our students arrived at school to an explosion of wildflowers including six 8-foot-tall sunflowers, countless zinnias, lavender, poppies, and marigolds. We also have huge tomato, potato, and bush bean plants that provide fresh produce to the community in our school's free micro-pantry.

Thank you so much for supporting my school garden!”

  • Social-Emotional Learning Through Cooperative Play

    Funded Apr 15, 2024

I am writing to update you on the wonderful impact of your donation to my cooperative play and social skills project. Last year, my students LOVED the magnetic building blocks and magnetic people. Access to these toys allowed us to practice sharing, cooperation, engineering, and social skills with all the students. By the end of the year, all students could play independently and use their words to borrow blocks, build together, or request to build by themselves.

I am so grateful for your generosity and now that a new year has begun I can tell you that your donation is going even further with this year's students. We started this year with the tools necessary for students to develop social-emotional skills with shared play and I am already seeing growth! On the first day of school, we had some grabbing of toys, some crying, and some bickering but each incident was a teachable moment, and only four short weeks into school I now see students asking for turns, sharing, and using their words instead of their hands to get what they want.

Thank you for your continued support and generosity!”

  • Solar Ecplise Glasses For The Whole School

    Funded Mar 12, 2024

I am writing to update you on my school's eclipse glasses project. Thanks to this community's incredible generosity we were able to get 1,000 pairs of eclipse glasses for my young students. The glasses arrived two weeks before the eclipse which allowed us to practice wearing them with each of the classes as well as fold, label, and distribute them. The excitement was palpable at dismissal time on Monday, April 8th. Hundreds of children were holding their glasses for the first time and many were yelling "LOOK! Ms. Silva-Bowe I got the glasses!!!" The event in the courtyard of our school was filled with fun and learning for all our students. The Museum of Science came and did eclipse activities with the kids, we had music playing, and multiple photo backgrounds to remember the day. My students had a wonderful time preparing for the eclipse and observing this unique and impactful event. Thank you so much for helping make this eclipse fun and safe for all my students.”

  • Child Safe Indoor Garden Pest Control

    Funded Jan 14, 2024

I am writing to update you on the wonderful impact the Child Safe Indoor Garden project has had in our school. Thanks to your generosity we received peppermint oil extract and sticky traps to control our soil gnat problem and the organic, food-grade Dr. Zymes concentrate which has completely freed us from spider mites! Since treating the garden with these various products the plants have begun to thrive! Our school's three-year-old orange tree was having a particularly hard time fighting off the spider mites which tend to attack new leaves first. The tree had not managed to sustain any new growth in the last nine months due to these pests. Now that the garden is free of them the orange tree is exploding with new growth! We even had some strawberry plants that I thought the mites had killed come back to life and sprout fresh leaves after the first week of treatments. I am so grateful to you for your support and generosity!”

  • Hats And Gloves For Winter

    Funded Dec 18, 2023

I am writing to thank you so much for your incredibly generous donations to my Winter Hats and Gloves project this past December. Thanks to your support my school received about 500 sets of matching hats and gloves just before our December vacation. Your donations made a huge difference for many families in our school community. My school's social workers were able to go around the school at arrival and dismissal time passing out hundreds of sets of hats and gloves to students in need. Again I find myself in awe of the love that strangers are willing to show my kiddos. Your support is so very much appreciated.”

  • Winter Jackets

    Funded Dec 15, 2023

I am writing to update you on our winter jacket project and convey my most heartfelt thanks for your support. The jackets you helped to provide for my students arrived just in time to be distributed ahead of both a winter storm and our December vacation. Thanks to your generosity all of my students who needed a jacket were able to have a brand new one in the color of their choice. The holidays are a financial strain on any family and sometimes the choice must be made between paying rent, appropriate winter clothing, and toys from Santa. Thank you so much for helping my students and relieving some of that financial stress around the holidays.”

  • Winter Sing-Along Spectacular

    Funded Dec 4, 2023

I am writing to update you on the incredible impact your donations made on my students. The warm winter jackets arrived just in time for winter vacation and a traditionally harsh New England cold snap. Thanks to your generosity the social workers were able to go around at arrival and dismissal giving out jackets to our young students who needed them just in time for break. The holidays are a big financial drain for every family and I know it means so much to our community to have one less thing to worry about and try to pay for around this time of year.”

  • Health and Happiness

    Funded Sep 4, 2023

Thank you so much for your incredibly generous donations toward keeping my students happy and healthy! We have been using the hand sanitizer You sent us at the beginning of every class and using the spray to clean each toy we use between every student. I have noticed a marked decrease in my own rate of illness, and I know that that also translates to students getting ill less frequently. Thanks to your contributions we have been able to safely be using toys that were unavailable during the height of Covid due to the risk of infection. My students love using fun toys like the ribbons and puppets and because you donated we can finally do so safely again.”

My school is located near Boston and my "wicked Smaht" first graders need a new musical challenge in the form of Ukuleles! My students and I are lucky enough to explore music in a school with an extremely supportive principle and superintendent. The value that our district places on music education is reflected in the fact that my students get music twice a week for a total of 80 minutes which is almost three times the average program! As a result my students are simply too musically smart for activities I would normally do with first grade and they NEED a new challenge! Learning the Ukulele will provide my students with an opportunity to apply all the skills they learned in Kindergarten in and exciting new way. These rock-stars can sing base lines in Major, Minor, Dorian, Mixolydian, and Phrygian tonality. Last year they also learned to sing and play melodies, baselines and harmonies, on barred Orff instruments. My kids are ready for this challenge, and I hope you will donate to help me provide it for them. My kids have promised that they will be "extra gentle" with the special instruments, so I'm also asking for a 24 month damage protection plan.
