My school is located near Boston and my "wicked Smaht" first graders need a new musical challenge in the form of Ukuleles! My students and I are lucky enough to explore music in a school with an extremely supportive principle and superintendent. The value that our district places on music education is reflected in the fact that my students get music twice a week for a total of 80 minutes which is almost three times the average program!
As a result my students are simply too musically smart for activities I would normally do with first grade and they NEED a new challenge!
Learning the Ukulele will provide my students with an opportunity to apply all the skills they learned in Kindergarten in and exciting new way. These rock-stars can sing base lines in Major, Minor, Dorian, Mixolydian, and Phrygian tonality. Last year they also learned to sing and play melodies, baselines and harmonies, on barred Orff instruments. My kids are ready for this challenge, and I hope you will donate to help me provide it for them.
My kids have promised that they will be "extra gentle" with the special instruments, so I'm also asking for a 24 month damage protection plan.
