Thank you so much for your investment in our classroom. This iPad has been an amazing learning tool in our classroom. We mainly use the iPad as reading intervention for students who are currently struggling in reading. These students have had trouble reading all year, and do not have access to technology at home. Through the use of the iPad, students have been granted access to so many books on their level, and more challenging books, to push them further along in their reading. We are currently using two reading application and a sight word application.
The students have been so excited to use the iPad to help them read! When they see their name on the iPad schedule for the day, a giant smile erupts on their face. They love that the applications that we use have a three step process. The app reads the book to them, then they read it on their own, and then they take a quiz on the book. This helps them because the audio helps the English language learners understand how the letters are supposed to sound and how to form the words using these letters. This helps them not only read, but with their decoding skills, and writing skills.
One student in particular, began the beginning of first grade on a level A, which is a beginning kindergarten level. She struggled reading the level A books, and this transferred over to her writing. She was a hard working student, that just could not grasp different letter sounds. However, once we received the iPad, this student's knowledge of letters and words really began to flourish. She is currently reading at a level C, which is a level that we were not sure if she was going to reach this year. Although this doesn't seem like a big jump to someone who is outside of the classroom, my co-teacher and I have seen a big change in her. She had more knowledge of sight words, and is able to decode 20 words, which is more than the two words she was able to decode at the beginning of the year.
I cannot express enough how helpful of a tool this iPad has been in our classroom. I look forward to seeing how much my students flourish throughout the rest of the year. Thank you so much for your investment in my classroom. This is something that has not only improved their lives, but mine as well. I am so excited to continue using this technology with my future students.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Jackie
