  • Book Bins to Organize Our Classroom Library

    Funded Sep 17, 2023

Thank you so much for donating towards my new classroom library!!

Getting a new classroom this year meant that my co-teacher and I needed a lot of new organizational tools. Most of all, we lost our classroom shelves, which allowed our classroom library to be organized. Since we got new rolling shelves, our old bins were too big. Thanks to all of our donors.

Since getting these bins, the classroom library has flourished. Students flock to the library and are so excited to read books that interest them and are on their own levels. This really has helped them to grow as readers.

My co-teacher and I can't express how much we appreciate the support and donation towards our new classroom.

Thank you again for your generous donation!”

    Ms. Jackie

  • Dispensing a Love for Reading

    Funded Dec 24, 2021

Thank you so much for donating towards this school wide project. I can not begin to describe the look on the students' faces when they realize that they get to keep these books. Something so simple, and they are just amazed. During the pandemic, and even now after, books are something that students are just getting back to using. We were unable to share books in the classroom. Due to this, many students had to rely on a tablet to read. Although, having this technology makes reading more accessible, nothing can compare to the feeling of a book in your hand, especially when learning to read.

Thanks to your support and generous donations, we have been able to bring the joy of reading back to the students in our school building!!

We can not express enough how thankful we are for your donation!! We are excited for all of our students to become life long bookworms!”

  • Little Libraries for Little Learners!

    Funded Feb 25, 2021

My students have been reading all year on Razz-kids and other online libraries. Although, they love earning stars, they were starting to get bored with reading on their tablets. I know! I can't believe they didn't want to use their tablets for something. My co-teacher ( who is in the building currently, while I'm teaching remotely) and I could just not figure out how to make reading fun again. Reading is a big part of first grade and it is important to show the students that reading is fun! That reading is a way to escape into the stories that are being told, it's a way to gain information that will help you not only in school, but in life.

Unfortunately, we are not allowed to use our classroom libraries this year. Thanks to your donation, our students were able to find the joy in reading!! My co-teacher said that when they had opened up the boxes of books, they were like children on christmas morning. She has never seen them more excited to read. They often ask for these books to read during their lunch period. Thank you so so much for bringing the joy of reading to my first grade classroom!! We have created many little book lovers through the donation of these books!!

I look forward to using these books to inspire my students for years to come.”

    Ms. Jackie

  • Turning Listening into Reading!

    Funded May 3, 2019

Thank you so much for gifting these headphones to my students. They have made an indescribable difference in their reading. I had several students who were struggling to read on grade level. Basic interventions and extra reading practice were just not enough for them. These headphones allowed my students to hear the correct pronunciation of sounds and words, while reading online and looking at the words. This build an amazing correspondence, and my students were able to use this knowledge to help them when reading from paper books. Words can not begin to describe how I felt seeing the smile on their faces when they realized that they could do it and that they were reading! After using these headphones, my students were not only able to read more challenging books, but they were able to comprehend them better!

Thank you for all of you support in my classroom!! These headphones have truly been such a gift!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Jackie

  • iLove Reading! With an iPad.

    Funded Feb 9, 2018

Thank you so much for your investment in our classroom. This iPad has been an amazing learning tool in our classroom. We mainly use the iPad as reading intervention for students who are currently struggling in reading. These students have had trouble reading all year, and do not have access to technology at home. Through the use of the iPad, students have been granted access to so many books on their level, and more challenging books, to push them further along in their reading. We are currently using two reading application and a sight word application.

The students have been so excited to use the iPad to help them read! When they see their name on the iPad schedule for the day, a giant smile erupts on their face. They love that the applications that we use have a three step process. The app reads the book to them, then they read it on their own, and then they take a quiz on the book. They love that the applications that we use have a three step process. The app reads the book to them, then they read it on their own, and then they take a quiz on the book. This helps them because the audio helps the English language learners understand how the letters are supposed to sound and how to form the words using these letters. This helps them not only read, but with their decoding skills, and writing skills.

One student in particular, began the beginning of first grade on a level A, which is a beginning kindergarten level. She struggled reading the level A books, and this transferred over to her writing. She was a hard working student, that just could not grasp different letter sounds. However, once we received the iPad, this student's knowledge of letters and words really began to flourish. She is currently reading at a level C, which is a level that we were not sure if she was going to reach this year. Although this doesn't seem like a big jump to someone who is outside of the classroom, my co-teacher and I have seen a big change in her. She had more knowledge of sight words, and is able to decode 20 words, which is more than the two words she was able to decode at the beginning of the year.

I cannot express enough how helpful of a tool this iPad has been in our classroom. I look forward to seeing how much my students flourish throughout the rest of the year. Thank you so much for your investment in my classroom. This is something that has not only improved their lives, but mine as well. I am so excited to continue using this technology with my future students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Jackie

Unfortunately, most of the students in my room do not have access to technology in their homes. They come from low-income homes, where money is tight and supplies are not plentiful. I believe having these resources will help the students learn more effectively. Most of my special needs students are classified under speech and language. Using the iPad, my students would be able to further their literacy while using applications that make it fun for them. The use of technology, will help them to not become frustrated, and to help strengthen the literacy skills they already have, as well as helping them to grow in the areas of concern. I also plan to use the iPad as academic enrichment for my higher level students. Finding fun literacy games, as well as applications to help them write narratives, will allow the students to have fun and learn at the same time, while relating to them in this age of technology.
