Graphic Novels For Graphic Readers
Funded May 5, 2022Thank you so much for your incredible donation. My students absolutely love the graphic novels. We are starting the school year by reading Sherlock Holmes The Hound of the Baskervilles. I have never seen my students so invested in reading.
With this book they are practicing making predictions, character development, and making inferences. Many of my students are improving their confidence as they want to read this story out loud. They are invested in the characters and the mystery.
As the school year continues I look forward to reading each of the novels you have so graciously provided for my classroom. With Dickens Christmas Carol my students will be able to examine symbolism. Maus and the 9/11 Report will help my students study history and connect it to modern times. These are lessons we would never have been able to explore without these graphic novels.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Shankle
This classroom project was brought to life by Dollar General Literacy Foundation and one other donor.Bouncing to a New Beat at a New School!
Funded May 7, 2018We have finally moved into our new school and my room is set up. My students will see the new room with all of the wonderful supplies you helped donate next Thursday. Our first two days of class will be spent learning how to use the bouncy balls and wiggle seats safely. I can already imagine how excited my students will be to learn that there are so any flexible seating choices in my classroom.
Now that we are in the new school I have the exciting opportunity to help my students reach new heights. The city of Holyoke is focused on growing our new school so that my students will truly have the ability to succeed in high school and beyond.
My classroom, and the wonderful storage units and flexible seating options you provided, is the first step towards my students' success. Thank you for all that you contributed and your faith in my students.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Shankle
