Wanted: Nonfiction Text for 2nd Grade!
Funded Apr 3, 2013Thank you so much for the books you purchased for our 2nd grade class! It was so generous of you to purchase all the books we needed to supplement our science unit!
During our last big science unit, I only had the books provided to us by our district. They ranged from 2nd grade reading level up to 5th grade reading level. As the teacher who had the below-level readers, I was left with nothing to use with my group. The books you purchased provided additional resources for our unit on Weather. My below-level readers were able to access text that was meaningful and interesting. And text that they could read! It was so rewarding to see their feelings of success without the frustration I was used to seeing with this reading group.
I truly appreciate your generosity and look forward to using these books with my 2nd graders for years to come! Thank you again!”

It's Definitley "Time For Kids" To Read More Nonfiction Text
Funded Nov 2, 2012Thank you very much for your generous donation to our second grade classroom. When I posted my project, I did not think it would get fully funded so quickly or by only one generous donator!
This is my first year teaching second grade and there have been numerous changes within our school district as far as curriculum and instruction. With that being said, we are starting to have a greater focus on nonfiction text.
The "Time for Kids" magazines have provided the extra real-world text that my students need but don't necessarily get from our curriculum. My students love reading about real life issues. They get so excited every time I pull out the next magazine! I cannot thank you enough for your wonderful donation!”

Individual CD Players for Literacy in Kindergarten!
Funded Apr 6, 2011Thank you so much for the generous donation for our classroom! I cannot express how much it meant to receive the individual CD players for our classroom! And in such a short time!
My students truly enjoyed using the CD players this year, even if it was just a short time. They were able to work independently during our Listen to Reading time and it really helped to alleviate some of the classroom management issues we were experiencing towards the end of the year. Our classroom once again became a quiet place for learning, allowing me to work with small groups of students during our writing block.
It was amazing to see my students learn how to use the CD players and then self-manage during work time. An activity like this really helps foster individual learners and I really saw that in the short time we were using the CD players. I am so excited for my class next year to be able to use them all year long!
Thank you again for your donation! It is greatly appreciated!”

Mrs. Guild
