My first graders love the opportunity to use technology within the classroom. We use our computers to read eBooks, practice literacy skills, and math strategies. Unfortunately, they have struggled with computers shutting down, having to reboot daily, not connecting to the internet, and so on. Despite our technology struggles, they persevere.
By donating to our project you will be investing in their future and success. This class has a genuine love of learning and desire to meet their goals. Having Chromebooks that are in good working condition allows them the opportunity to read thousands of eBooks. This helps them with vocabulary, comprehension, and for some, English. We use a program called Lexia that has students practice and master various reading skills that we may not be able to focus on in class. For example, if a student is struggling with vowels or ending sounds Lexia has them practice with those skills until they have it mastered. Once students have mastered a level they receive a certificate. We hang our certificates in the hallway for the entire school to see our accomplishments. I have seen students dance and cheer when they have passed a level that has taken them weeks to master. I love seeing their faces light up at their achievement and their knowing that they have truly succeeded after a facing a challenge.
I couldn't be more proud of this group. They challenge themselves daily, in every aspect of the school day. They are eager to learn and aspire to end the school year reading at a second grade level. In order to further support their goals and achievement I need your help and your investment in their learning. We all appreciate your support and belief that they are capable of achieving anything they put their minds to.
