  • Giving Trash a Better Ending

    Funded Sep 22, 2022

Thank you so much for this project. The TerraCycle marker box is already half full and students are in the process of creating a campaign to spread the word even more. Marker recycling is one of our most popular programs. Both the Sustainability Squad members and teachers love being able to divert these materials out of the trash and heading to the landfills and to a recycler who uses them to create new products.

They are learning so much about how to educate them about best practices and help save the earth too.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Schuleman

  • Science is Cool

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

You generous gift is already hard at work. We have used ice cubes to not only heal a few bumps and headaches, but have discussed melting and phase change. We also measured how long it took for hot water to become cold both in and out of the refrigerator. One group of students now want to test the freezer against the refrigerator. We also are keeping potatoes for our mealworms and lettuce for our stickbugs.

Thank you for supporting my classroom and students. I know that as our school year moves on, we will use it more and more.”

  • Save the Planet, A Mask at a Time

    Funded Aug 24, 2022

Thank you so much! We have just barely started the school year and people are already bringing in their masks that had been saved over the summer. Many students and teachers are still wearing masks as COVID is still with us. Having these zero waste boxes is one way we can reduce the waste stream by keeping plastic out of landfills.

My Sustainability Squad hasn't even had our first meeting and the team from last year is already communicating the need to recycle disposable masks. Some even made their own signs to hang up in our building.

Thank you for making this possible and empowering my young leaders.”

  • Butterflies and Earth Stewards

    Funded Nov 16, 2021

Your donation has inspired the next generation of etymologists, earth stewards, conservationists, and nature lovers. We learned about insect lifecycles by observing our butterflies. We documented their entire lifecycle from larva to adult and are hoping our butterflies will lay eggs before we set them free in the garden.

These materials captures the hearts and minds of my students. The emotional attachment they formed with each of their larva was heartwarming. The care with which they attached the chrysalis into the nets and the eagerness as they counted the days till our butterfly emerged is a testament to their desire to learn.

    Thank you for this opportunity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Schuleman

  • Bugs and Tugs

    Funded Dec 24, 2021

Thank you so much for this amazing gift to my classroom. The students are fascinated by the insect specimens. They love that they can pick them up, hold them, turn them around and observe from all angles. They are able to notice details that fuel their curiosity and inspire them to learn more.

The magnets similarly have been so helpful in teaching about poles. Having strong magnets that are clearly marked has made learning these seemingly invisible concepts more concrete.

Thank you again for these additions to my classroom.”

    Ms. Schuleman

  • Buttons for Good

    Funded Jan 22, 2022

Thank you so much for the button making supplies. It has been such a huge success. Students have been designing buttons as campaign swag to promote mask recycling, BIC recycling, Earth day, and more.

The buttons have allowed so many students to express their thoughts and feelings and communicate them through pictures and slogans. The students created a Countdown to Earth Day Challenge and are rewarding classes which complete the challenge with buttons.

The classes that finished the challenge early are inspiring the other classes to work harder because they want buttons too. Even the other teachers are motivated.

This gift has been a boon to our community action work.”

  • Let's Get Started Farming

    Funded Aug 25, 2021

This amazing gift is already growing smiles and excitement in the classroom. We have seeded our crops for the systems using these materials. The kids were excited to try new mediums for hydroponic growing.

The ability to have multiple choices for growing has allowed us to design investigations to see if there is one medium that is more advantageous than others. The jury is still out as we continue to collect data around germination rates and times.

Thank you again for supporting my students and classroom. We appreciate your generosity and support!”

  • Fresh Air and Friends

    Funded Jun 2, 2021

Thank you so much for helping to give my students and my school recess equipment. The students were so excited to return to school this year. They were even more excited to learn that they would be able to play with other classes.

Having enough recess balls, jump ropes, and hula hoops means that they can play safely together. They are having a ball playing kickball, catch, keep away (not my personal favorite) and so much more. I have even improved my hula hoops skills from lessons from my kids.

Thank you again for this gift to my school.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Schuleman

  • Let's Get Serious About Innovation

    Funded May 4, 2021

Thank you so much for this gift to my class. The students are so excited to start our Serious Play Lego sessions. We are learning how to respond to the challenge and then participate in the share and reflection. I have purchased containers for the pieces so that the pieces stay together and don't get lost.

We have started to use this methodology to talk about our feelings and goals. I look forward to continuing to lead these sessions and really integrating them in our next school year.

Thank you for helping to bring this great tool to my classroom.”
