  • Creating Mindful Yogis

    Funded Apr 17, 2019

Thank you again for your generous donation of yoga supplies to our little RSP classroom. My students have been absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to start each day with a 5-6 minute yoga session with the yoga mats, yoga blocks, and the yoga bands.

While I knew that practicing yoga and mindfulness would assist in their ability to focus and self-manage themselves, I am beyond elated to share that the students have been doing much much more. They are not only able to maintain focus, but they are building strength and teamwork skills as well. Students will often assist one another with posture, form, or redirecting others when they need to get into a new pose.

My next steps for this project is to share the supplies and lessons with other students who are also in need of mindfulness and yoga. Having already shared the materials with my grade level, I hope to have all classrooms in my school implement such strategies and feel comfortable enough to share said materials as well. These lessons and skills align perfectly with the social emotional work that is already being done at the school site. It is my hope that by the end of the year, everyone will know and want to participate in such lessons.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Schramling

  • We Got the Wiggles!

    Funded Dec 5, 2016

Thank you thank you for your generous donation. The bumpy seats and stress balls have been an absolute success not only in my RSP classroom, but in the students' general education classes as well. My students who have a case of the wiggles now actively seek out the bumpy seat or other sensory object they need in order to help them focus and attend to lessons.

One student who I did not anticipate needing a bumpy seat or stress ball has absolutely fallen in love with it! For the first time this entire school year, she was able to complete her own 12 x 12 multiplication chart and a three paragraph essay independently. While she doesn't wiggle as much as my other students, she uses the seat as her own "stress ball" and will either sit on it or will have it in her lap when she is working.

Based on the success of the bumpy seats and stress balls, I hope to implement for "flexible seating" options for students with and without the wiggles. I am hoping to add large exercise balls and other "wiggle" chairs to help students focus while also letting them move around at their leisure.

Thank you again for your help and love. My students and I are forever grateful.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Schramling

  • iPads for Literacy

    Funded Oct 19, 2015

Thank you very much for donating to my latest DonorsChoose project. I am ecstatic to have received the iPads and integrate the iPads within our literacy lessons so that students can further their knowledge in reading, writing, and written comprehension. With the iPads, we have been utilizing various reading programs including "Raz-Kids" and "News-O-Matic" where students can listen to articles, interact with informational passages, and further express their knowledge of the articles by recording their voices when responding to questions. Along with the reading apps, the students have absolutely LOVED using Brain Pop, an interactive app that provides videos and visuals for any and all subjects and topic areas. They truly enjoy listening and interacting with the videos and receiving instruction in a different way. The students have also loved utilizing Google Docs and other apps to type their essays and further their keyboarding skills.

Overall, the iPads have assisted my students in developing their literacy, keyboarding skills, and becoming digital citizens of the world! Thank you again for your generous contribution. The students truly appreciate all your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Schramling

The students in my RSP classroom are in third, fourth, and fifth grade and receive special education services in both language arts and mathematics. While they enjoy being in their general education classroom, they absolutely love coming to the RSP classroom and working on projects that meet their instructional level and help them feel successful. My students are all creative, love formulating new ideas, and truly have a love for learning.
