  • Making Reading Magic Happen!

    Funded Jun 4, 2023

Thank you for your generous donation to our classroom. First grade is an exciting time where students start to work on learning how to read and express themselves through their writing. It can also be a challenging time for many students who need a little extra help with the learning.

Giving the students the opportunity to work with the building blocks of reading- rhyming and phonemic awareness has opened up more student success and has helped the students know that they are on the road to being successful readers and writers.

It's pretty cool to see the students using the skills that they have learned with both Heggerty and Rhyme Magic in their reading and writing. Students who were once hesitant to work independently have now started to use the skills they've learned during the lessons in our writing and reading time. They are able to count the sounds in words and write independently which makes my teacher heart so happy. The sky is the limit in our classroom with support from donors like you!”

    With gratitude,

  • Books, Books, Books!

    Funded Aug 22, 2022

Thank you for your generous donation to our classroom and our project. Reading is something that is near and dear to my heart. I come from a family of avid readers and my goal as a teacher is to pass on that love of reading to my students.

One of my favorite ways to get students into reading is introducing listening centers. Listening centers provide my students with the opportunity to listen to stories in a fun way and work on many of the concepts in reading that help them be strong readers.

My students loved the listening centers. I chose a variety of books that I thought would be fun and interesting reads. My students love to sit at the listening center and listen to a book and then go write and draw about the story. The students learn about many concepts of print and are able to work on their comprehension skills in a fun way. It's great to hear the laughter as my students listen to "Sheep in a Jeep" and then see how creative they can get as they come up with their own version of their Sheep adventures.”

  • Readers Are Leaders!

    Funded Mar 9, 2022

Thank you for your generous donation to our classroom. Each student in my classroom strives their best to learn and grow each day. With the new materials from this project, my students have been able to continue their mastery of reading and writing skills.

The books from this project have been a big hit in our small reading groups and in independent reading time. Students see the phonics skills we are learning in these books and can practice what they are learning.

During independent reading I have seen the students read the books with their peers and gain so much confidence with their reading skills. It is wonderful to see our readers grow and learn each day. Thank you for helping to make our classroom a fun and vibrant place to learn and grow.”

  • Secret Stories Help Us Soar!

    Funded Sep 18, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. Secret Stories have been an amazing addition to our classroom and have given students another tool to help them with their learning and meeting their goals.

When I first introduced Secret Stories the kids were so excited. We started off with one story and each and every day they would ask for more and more. Soon they were finding Secrets in stories we read and in their writing. It was amazing to see them take off with their learning.

Our Secret Stories hang up in our classroom and each and every day the students are using their Secrets to write and read.”

  • Magnificent Mustangs Are Amazing Authors

    Funded Aug 26, 2022

Thank you so much for your donation to our classroom. The materials purchased through this project have helped to enhance our learning.

My students love to have the opportunity to practice their skills using hands on learning experiences. The dot markers and magnetic letters have helped my students practice their literacy skills and start to foster more independence. As they grow in their confidence they have begun to become more proficient readers and writers.

Another part of our project was our organization station and new white boards. It has been a great help to have students have easier access to their learning materials and are able to help one another out with materials which helps make for a smoother learning day.”

    Ms. Scannell

  • Phonics Fun for Everyone!

    Funded Jan 16, 2022

I wanted to write a quick note to say thank you for supporting my classroom. My students are always so excited to receive new materials from our Donors Choose projects and this project was no exception!

When I brought the box into class my students were so curious as to what was in the box! They had their ideas and were so surprised when I showed them the new games that we received. They wanted to start playing right away!

We started out using the games as a way to practice our phonics skills in small group after reading group instruction. Once the students got the hang of it I left it as a choice center for the students to use after completing their work. They love that they can choose a game and work on a phonics skill with a partner or independently.

Thanks for making my classroom a fun and exciting place to learn! We look forward to sharing more projects with our donors and showing how much fun learning is in first grade!”

  • Operation Organization

    Funded Nov 18, 2021

Thank you for the gift of organization in our classroom. The seat sacks have been a welcome addition to our classroom and our organization.

Each student has their own seat sack which has helped with students learning how to stay organized and keep their materials organized. Students are able to more easily work at their desks with their peers in a cooperative manner. Students have also learned responsibility through keeping track of their materials such as library books and individual materials.

My students were so excited when I brought the box in the day it got delivered! They were really excited to see how the seats sacks worked and wanted to put their materials away right away. It was funny to see how excited they all got about organization!

Our next steps in our classroom are continuing our learning and preparing for 2nd grade. We are almost to the 4th quarter of our year and we are going to finish strong!”

  • Dino-Mite Math!

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

This project has meant the world to my students. When I created the project I wanted to bring into my classroom materials that I know would be engaging and would get my students excited about math. The materials that I received as part of my project have been a home run! Students are excited to complete math lessons and the materials are a big motivator. We are currently working on addition and subtraction within 20. This has been a challenge for the students and they can become frustrated at times. With the new math tools, students are able to work out the problems using hands on manipulatives and they feel successful. There is no better feeling than watching a student master a math concept and having the materials to help them be successful has been a wonderful addition to our classroom.

My students will continue to use these materials in both our math classes and beyond- as we strive to combine math and art to foster creativity and ensure that all students are successful in all areas of learning.”

  • Write It Down!

    Funded Sep 4, 2020

Thank you for supporting my project for our classroom. Distance learning has been a challenge this year for my students- however they have persevered and continued on with learning. My students have done their best this year and I feel that the project helped with our learning in math. The use of the easel and the chart paper made displaying and working on math problems so much easier.

Our project was funded so quickly and it was such a blessing. I did a reveal over Zoom and the students were so excited to see what our project had brought to our virtual classroom. The chart paper and easel made working on fraction problem so much easier. I was able to have more space to show visual models which have definitely helped my students understand the concept more concretely.

Thank you for your generosity in funding this project and making sure that students have the supplies and tools they need to be successful learners.”

Flexible seating offers my students the opportunity to choose how they want to work and where they want to work in our classroom. By offering my students a variety of flexible seating options, I am giving them the power of choice.
