How often do you read or listen to the news? Once a day? Multiple times a day? Imagine if you didn't have any access to the world around you- how lost would you be?! These magazines will help my students see life outside of school to encourage their vision for their own future. The best part is, magazines don't require internet so all of my students will have access! Reading current events in this manner will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My students love when I bring in news or images from around the world and we always try to stay current with what is happening outside our four walls. The more informed my students are, the more apt they will be to having a positive role in our global society. Reading current events helps my students understand multiple perspectives and have empathy for others. I want my middle schoolers to go into high school already aware of the world around them so they can use that knowledge and apply it, not learn it for the first time. My students have already shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
