STEM-tastic Toys for Kindergarten!
Funded Aug 8, 2022Thank you so much for your generous donations to my Donors Choose project "STEM-tastic Toys for Kindergarten." It has been a few months now since the project was funded and students are loving the new additions to our classroom. When I showed the class our new toys, cheers and claps of excitement erupted on the carpet!
Every day during choice time, our end of the day play and explore time, students get out the Magnatiles, Legos, Bristle Blocks, and Kids K-nex tubs. These STEM toys have been providing students opportunities to develop fine motor skills and work collaboratively. Some students even start at the creation station, draw a picture of their design, and then move over to the building areas to bring their design to life! One student in particular, who enjoys learning about world history in his free time at home, builds different World War II ships that he has been learning about. It is truly magical to see the gears in their little minds turning as they learn, explore, and apply their knowledge.
Thank you again for your tremendous generosity. I appreciate your dedication to supporting education and our future leaders!”

Imagine, Create, and Paint!
Funded Jun 22, 2021I want to start by thank you all for donating to my project, "Imagine, Create, and Paint!". When I created this project over the summer I was a Transitional Kindergarten teacher. Later that summer after my project had been fully funded, I had the opportunity to move up to Kindergarten. Despite my change in grade levels, I have found so many uses for the easel and paint supplies in my classroom so far this school year.
When I rolled the easel out of the closet and showed the students, they were ecstatic! They were so excited to paint on a "big easel" as one of them said. "This will be way more fun than painting on paper just on our tables!", said another. The easel sparked an excitement and enthusiasm in my classroom and I have been able to use it in so many different ways.
For example, I explained to the students that this year we would be exploring the seasons, learning about the characteristics of each season, the weather and how it changes, and ultimately how the seasons are different. We started with Autumn. At the end of our unit students were tasked with creating a painting that illustrated the season of Autumn as a final project. Throughout the year we will continue to learn about the other seasons, going through the same process.
Additionally, students have the opportunity to use the easel and paint supplies during Explore Time. We end each day in my classroom exploring, creating, building, playing, and using our imagination. Students can choose to build with legos and blocks, engage in cooperative play, draw, read, and now paint! It is so wonderful to see the students using their imagination and creativity as they put on their smock and put paint to paper.
Thank you again for your tremendous generosity. I appreciate your dedication to supporting education and our future leaders!”
