Help Us Learn to Read!
Funded Dec 31, 2010I cannot begin to express my gratitude to you all for your generous donations. Since the first day we received the literacy centers, my students cannot wait for independent work time. Every day, at least three times per morning, I hear "What time are we doing centers?" They have never been so interested, independent, and confident in any of our previous center activities.
As you can see from our pictures, my students have even started cooperatively working together. They are much more helpful with each other, and they do this on their own without me even asking them to. These centers have made my students have a deepened respect for each other, and they are not afraid to ask each other for help.
My students are much more confident in themselves now as well. Throughout the day, there are many opportunities for my students to be independent. They are excelling in reading, and I would never have been able to encourage this confidence and independence without having enriching literacy activities.
I have also noticed that my students reading levels have improved. They are much more comfortable reading to each other now than they ever have been before. I am able to work with small groups who need specific help in one aspect of reading, while knowing that the rest of the class is doing a meaningful activity through these independent learning centers. My students are working harder now, and I can already see the improvements. It makes me happy to know that my students will be in great shape this time next year for our state standardized testing.
Thanks again for all of your support. We really do appreciate it!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Hannum
