Help Students To Continue to Use Their Imagination!!

Dear Donors,

When I was called down to the office to "pick up a package" I rushed downstairs because I knew that it was the box of books that you so generously helped to fund. I was elated when I noticed that it indeed were the books that I had ordered for my students. I didn't even care that the box weighed a ton!! When I arrived in my classroom the students were curious to know what was in the box. When I told them that we received 50 new books for our library a loud cheer was heard all the way down the hallway!! My students had been reading the same old books since last year and couldn't WAIT to get their hands on a new book to read. One student raised her hand and asked: "can we change our books NOW???" The student's responses were amazing and warmed my heart because these new books got them excited about reading and THAT was the whole point of this proposal!!!!

I have replenished our class library. I took out the old books and replaced them with our new awesome books. The students have book baggies and use these new books to read at home and in class. They read and respond to what they have read by answering a reading response question. I collect their books and read their responses everyday! It's truly very rewarding. Thanks to you my students have new, exciting books in their hands.

This project has boosted my student's learning because it heightened their interest. Students will read a book if you ask them to, but students will only be engaged in the reading if they like the book that they are reading. I don't have to ask them to read. They ask ME when reading time is and when I tell them to take out their books they cheer. I can't thank you enough for your generosity!!
